OK, since you seem to be the 'resident plant expert', I have a question.  What do you know about a weed/whatever called "Sweet Annie"?  A woman at work gave me a tiny little plant of it about 5 years ago, and it grew into a 5 ft tall thing---smells VERY nice, and has about a billion seeds on it every fall---so these seeds have spread out all over my yard, and little starts of it are popping up everywhere....which I really dont mind, because when I mow, I mow a lot of it down and it always smells really good.  I do the same with some of my spearmint---I let it grow places that I really dont care for it to be, just so it smells nice when I weed-whack it down.   I have seen wreaths made from dried Sweet Annie at craft shows, and it continues to smell good, even dried. Are there any other uses for it?

Oh goody! Something I know about. hehe Love this subject! Contains herbal folklore and history as well as getting to visit with you! lol Ok, Sweet Annie is an herb, commonly thought of as a weed but once you've named it, it takes on another rold altogether in your garden. by the way Paul, thank you for rescuing this sweet little plant. It is lovely when crushed, with your feet or your mower and is actually thought to lower your blood pressure when you smell it. It was used to treat malaria during the civil war, rather unsuccessfully. What it is good at is curing peptic problems, a swig of this floating in a normal cup of hot tea will soothe a sour stomach. Dried in clumps, hung upside down, it can be made into gorgeous swag or wreath decorations at your door. The dried herb can also be stored in mason jars for several years and used in hot water as a tea, sweetened with table sugar or honey for diareah (sp) and other stomach ailments. Hope this helps! It's pretty too! I wouldn't mind some of your seeds!

Thanks for all the info.  It's just now starting to grow all the bushy leaves, so there wont be any seeds for awhile, but you're more than welcome to as many as you want---it's sort of an invasive thing, but it's a pretty plant, and I DO like the scent.

Ah but invasive only where you don't want it... lol a sign of a healthy plant. This is a share over the fence kind of plant... give it to your neighbors and friends, kinda like zuchinni in late summertime... grin

When the plant goes to seed in the fall, let me know, I'd happily pay postage! As you know, we moved 4 years ago from a half acre garden to a sprawling 29 acres of waist high weeds! I'm starting over after having had a garden with over a thousand different variety of plants. I now have sweet william, babys breath, two rose bushes and a few hot poker plants as well as a 10x10 greenhouse with some tropical plants. That and what nature provides.
