| So, I got the results of my allergy test and, if I'm reading it correctly, I am allergic to . . . . nothing! I have a slight abnormal reading on crab, white pototoes, avocados and strawberries, but no allergies. So, here's what I don't get. If I'm not allergic to anything, why did I always get a "cold/flu" at Christmas until we started putting up an artificial tree? If I'm not allergic to anything, why a day or so after picking a ton of wildflowers for a party, did I wake up with red eyes that were almost swollen shut? If I'm not allergic to anything, why do I get a "cold" every spring and every fall, like clockwork? I just don't get it. Well, I will see my doctor next week when I have my sinus surgery and maybe he will have some answers. |

| Jan...most likely you are allergic to molds, etc. I'm the same way over the winter season...I'm "sick" with allergies nonstop. Also cedar. I just don't think they can test for every single type of mold/pollen. But you for sure obviously have allergies. |

| Jan You're right, it doesn't make sense. My dil has such a difficult time with allergies. She went and had all the allergy testing and she only reacted to the "control" as they call it. She has a terrible time with her eyes getting red and itchy. They even extented her testing to her arm and still...nothing. When they suggested going further with the tests, she said enough, she had been poked enough. Now she just uses eye drops and doesn't know what to do next. |

| Also...whenever I'm miserable I look at my weatherbug..it gives pollen counts and tells what's high for that day. That's how I figured out what I'm "allergic" to. |

| Not all people will react to an allergy test so it doesn't mean 100 percent you have no allergies. What kind of test was it you had, scratch? You obviously have reactions to something and I am sure your doctor will decide what step to take next. There are other ways to try to eliminate the cause, testing is usually just the easiest. Intradermal testing, where they inject the substance under the skin with a small needle is usually a good test, but they don't start with it usually because it can cause a worse reaction in some people. I hope you figure it out or at least get some medication to try. Keep us posted!!!! |

Well, they tried to do the skin test -- pin pricks on the arm and then it was to be followed by the injection under the skin. But I showed a reaction to the glycerin, which is the medium they use to do the testing, so I showed a "false positive" to everything. At that point, they decided to do the RAST blood test, which are the results that came back negative. I guess at this point, the next time is the sinus surgery next week - I hope that will relieve the pain on that side of my face and make me feel better. My doctor said I needed this surgery regardless of how the allergy testing came out, because my sinus cavity is just full of thickening from infection (I guess), and is not draining properly. Good grief! |

I found this as I am not as familiar with this test : )
"Normal negative results indicate that you probably do not have a “true allergy,” an IgE-mediated response to that specific allergen, but the results of allergen-specific IgE antibody tests must always be interpreted and used with caution and the advice of your doctor. Even if your IgE test is negative, there is still a small chance that you do have an allergy." |

Jan,
My best friend does not have allergies, either, even though she starts sneezing whenever her daughter's dogs come over, and she doesn't do yard work any more because of the reaction she has to all the stuff out there. She went to the doc and had allergy testing done, too. Her doc said she had "nonspecific rhinitis". That means she get runny nose for nonspecific reasons, but I have no clue as to what that REALLY means. Maybe you have "nonspecific rhinitis."

| I'm going to talk to my doctor about an allergy test. There is something at work that I'm allergic to. I can breathe find then when I get to work my nose plugs up. Especially with it getting close to summer. Hopefully your doc will be able to tell you something. |

| It might be that your not allergic to anything really in normal amounts. But in times like putting up a Christmas Tree you are probably bringing up a ton of dust from the tree sitting for the past 11months. And with the wild flowers, same thing, you are gather them and so much of their pollen has been swirled up and went straight up your nose. I'm the same way. It's just that there is so much more dust and pollen during those times than usually, and usually you are fine with them. The same happens when I go to my parents and we have the dogs playing non-stop. All the dander just kills my sinuses. |

My eyes used to itch and water and my nose would itch and run every time I touched my stray cat. I started drinking organic apple cider vinegar and that stopped immediately. I now take it twice daily. Unfortunately, I still sneeze my arse off during pollen season, but it's nice to be able to pet the cat.
On another note, Oscar contracted what I think was a UTI on Easter Sunday. He actually peed on me at one point. Per earthclinic.com, I gave him a half teaspoon of acv mixed with canned food and in an hour or two he was back to normal. |
