I don't know if any of you remember me talking about Odie, the little rattie that started my love affair...  This is Rocky's older brother.  I will post some pics up in the pics section.

My poor little Odie became the victim of a very bad situation between my sister in law and her soon to be ex-husband.  She left him, leaving Odie behind, and then HE HAD HIM PUT DOWN!  This dog had nothing wrong with him!  He was not even 2 years old!  The reason given was that he couldn't stand to look at him because it made him think of my sister.  Yeah, we think it was more out of spite than anything.  I would have SO taken that dog into my home and HE knows it because I have offered before when they complained about his lack of housebrokenness.  I knew that this was all a matter of attention with him and made several offers to take him home.  UGH  I am beyond pi*&^d right now... I don't get it.

Maybe the vet did not do it. Maybe they found him a new home. That happens sometimes.

Have you checked with the vet? It's possible the vet didn't do it.....if he is really gone then....there is a special place in he!! for that man....karma will get him.

Anyone out there in an "iffy" situation with spouse, significant other or roommate...please take this as a warning! If you leave the home - take the pets with you!!

I think I will check with the vet. I'm not terribly hopeful. Odie didn't get alot of training. Gawd it would be great to find that dog alive.

My guess is that he did something else with the dog and just wanted you guys to think the worst. You probably can't believe anything this guy tells you. I hope their aren't kids involved. I would definitely check with the vet.

I hate to say it, but taking the dog to be put down isn't the worst thing this a-hole could do. How many times has some jerk in a broken relationship made the papers for taking out his rage on an innocent pet.

I hope you find Odie safe and sound in the vet's care.

I would also check with the nearby animal shelters and humane societies. He may have just dumped Odie there and told everyone he had the dog put down. If he had the dog put down, there's a special place in hell for him.

I worked at a vet years ago and if a client wanted to have a healthy animal pts just because that vet would not do it. He would educate the person and tell them that he would take the animal and find him a new home. Some people would go for it some took the animal else where. I hope Odie is out there some where!!

This makes me so SMAD!  (sad and mad)..   I worked almost 10 yrs as a vet tech and it was common practice for the vet clinics to rehome animals remitted to euthanasia.  The deal is that the owner bringing in a healthy animal for euthanasia has to sign paperwork to remit the dog to the clinic or vet.  I rescued just such a dog some time ago (she is since passed of old age).  I do hope you find Odie moping in a cage at the vets office.

Divorce makes people do rotten things but this is seriously unthinkable!

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!

You mean no vet's offices report that he was brought in and euthanized? Have you check local animal shelters/pounds? Maybe he just dumped him.

Make up some "missing dog" flyers and post them around town. Call the radio
station and see if they do lost pet announcements. Check with animal control
and ask them to keep an eye out for Odie.

This is a small town. The vets are the shelters there. The unfortunate part about all this is 1. there is no way for me to find out if he actually still has the dog without going there. I thought about just going there at night and snatching Odie off his chain. Yes, off his chain. The bad thing about that is that he is not the only dog, and the rest are giant wolf-dogs. 2. Everyone in that part of the family is given to dramatics. I starting to wonder if this is just my sister in law trying to make him sound bad. She makes up things frequently. This is a woman who texted her daughter that she was in the hospital dying because she wouldnt answer her phone. This happened a few months after we lost her older brother. Imagine the frenzy the family was in at 3 am! 3. We don;t have an animal control. It's just the sherriff and the vets. I don;t know if I should call them and have Odie removed if he's still there, It's crazy now.

Do you have the BIL's phone number? Why not call up calmly and say that SIL said something about him no longer wanting Odie and that you wanted to let him know that you'd be willing to give Odie a home if that's the case. Keep it light and matter of fact and about the dog. Act kind of vague about SIL. Just a thought but maybe if he has the dog you'll find out.

This would be so much simpler if they had phones... but there is no other way to contact besides driving 30 min over there and knocking on the door. I'm not terribly fond of that just because of this guy's attitude.

I was hoping for better news about Odie but I guess since the vets say he was not brought in, it might be good news I am praying that you can get your hands on him. Hugs and prayers sent your way.

My hubby will be with me. Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, guys! My niece, the daughter of this sister in law came over last night. She had no word, only the same thing we had heard. I did call the vets again this am to ask and still nobody has seen Odie. That's at least partially good.
