That's the name (well, shelter name) of a dog I wanted to adopt when I was looking (and ultimately got Sophie).  I fell in love with her picture.  And I decided to get her, but she was about a three hour drive away... my parents (and I don't have my own car) said no way.  They took me to the local animal shelter.  I was upset, but decided not to harden my heart against any dog there, and found Sophie.  And I'm glad I did...

But I check periodically, and Whiskey is still there.    Whiskey is at a no kill shelter, which is good. (And Sophie wasn't).   But a shelter is a shelter and she's still there...

And the worst part?  A little part of me wants her to stay there so if I get to a place where I can get another dog I can go get her... but it's just a little part of me, most of me just wants her to find a home.

Sigh.

It's tough to want another dog and not be able to get one - especially when there's a particular dog we want. I wanted to get Hendryx a playmate, but my son doesn't want a second dog in the house. I'm one of the "everyone has to buy into it before I'll get a pet" crowd. So, Hendryx rules the single-dog roost.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!

My rattie Homer died in July, and when I was finally able to think about another dog, I found one that seemed perfect, a rattie whose owners were looking to rehome him. Everything seemed like fate--he was Homer's weight, height, had his button ears, even the same birthday (though years apart of course). We were going to make a 1400 mile round trip journey to pick him up, but the day before his owner emailed me and said her husband didn't want to wait and had given him to someone else.

I now have Monty, who is very different from Homer but very much loved. However, I still look at all the resources I considered when I was looking for another dog--Humane societies, rescue groups, Craig's list (yes, I know a lot of you will roll your eyes at that one), etc., and wish I could add yet another dog to my home. There is one in particular, luckily he's in a good foster home, named Buddy, that I have thought about many times, much as I would love to have him, I know I can't.

Pamela, that's my long-winded way of saying I know what you mean! You truly can fall in love at first sight, especially when that first sight is of a rattie needing a home. So I will cross my fingers and hope my Buddy and your Whiskey are well and safe and will find loving homes even if it isn't with us.

Yeah... Whiskey isn't a rattie-- I'd never had a rattie before Sophie. The only other rattie I'd ever known was my aunt's one, Cricket... who is very sweet and loving, but a little high maintenaince... lol...

Whiskey is some sort of mutt, I think they said around 35 lbs... but she looks nearly EXACTLY like my beloved lost dog Molly, who was also some sort of mutt, though Molly was only 26
