This is sad and so very sick...right here in Perfect Palm Bay of 80,000 people.  The kid goes to burglarize this lady's house, according to witnesses with whom he spoke, bragging on his deed.  He told them he found the woman sitting on her bed, located a knife in the house, stabbed her in the neck then cut her throat.  Her ex-husband found her laying on the living room floor in a pool of blood.  The kid left with about $6 and bought beer with it afterwards.  The witnesses said he has a "rule" of not leaving any witnesses behind.  He is being held on first degree murder in juvenile hall without bond.  The report said there was a struggle as she tried to defend herself.

The kid lived on and off with his mother, down the street from this lady and had talked to her before.  He is a dropout from the local highschool and has a record.  The detective said, about the kid in the past, he seemed like a normal kid.

From his photo he looks like a sicko.  What the H E double hockey sticks is wrong with this world?

I think some people are born evil or without a soul. Are they going to try him as an adult? They would in Texas and they'd be going for the death penalty!

oh my gosh that is so so so sad. what is wrong with kids in this world? well i will tell you my op

1. there is way to much violence on and in cartoons also!!!!

2 kids spending way to much time watching it

3 you have parents that dont give a hoot about their kid or kids

4 i know it takes 2 now days to make a living but parents need to pay more attention to their kids and talk to their kids and let them know they are there for them. don t scream at your kid or kids talk to them in a civil voice.

It's so hard to tell what's in the minds of some people or what ultimately motivates them. This kid clearly has gone off the deep end. No, he can't get the death penalty, but he'll most likely be tried as an adult and put away for a very long time. Will he come to regret it? I hope so.

I am with Pam on this one--tru evil can be inborn, as in the case of some socipaths and pycopaths--they are missing somthing in there brain and are untreatable by phyciatrists---we gotta be vigilant and listen to our instincts...

some kids i went to school with murdered an elderly lady for $62.00 a few years ago.there was about 5-6 involved and only 1 or 2 served time for it!.the ladies son is a lawyer,so i dunno how they got away with it but they did.the way they got busted was because one of them got drunk in a bar and bragged about it.they were all trouble makers through school,so hearing it happened didn't surprise me one bit but this is a town of less than 5,000 people that it happened in and there's been several other murders since then and i've known everyone involved in each of them.

I had a Rifleman rifle, a six-shooter that shot plastic bullets (never shot out anyone's eye), I watched Saturday morning cartoons, westerns, horror (back then but nothing like Tarentino stuff), we had play fights, real fights, I'd love to run some people off the road now, but I've never had premeditated thoughts of going into a house to rob it with the plan of leaving no witnesses. Maybe it's the video games, we didn't have them, we played outside.

Oh, I had the toy guns, cartoons were violent and racist, the Three Stooges poked and kicked each other when I was a kid. It would NEVER occur to me to hurt somebody for real. The vast majority of people know that the stuff on TV and video games are not real. The violent ones will become violent no matter what is or is not available to see on TV or play onscreen or online. The bans haven't helped yet.

I agree with Pam and Melo....some people are born evil. Some become evil - as in psychopaths and sociopaths. They cannot be "fixed". They are the same as rabid animals.....they need to be euthanized. This society will never do that (and probably shouldn't because who is to say which of us is truly psychotic?).

This kid was 16. If he can't get the death penalty then we, the taxpayers, will be supporting him in prison for a long time and then he'll get out - to kill again. Prison will only make him harder and more violent. It won't "reform" him but it does protect society from him.

This boy is truely evil. The Bible says God created vessels for good and vessels for evil. That right there tells me that some are just born that way. I have a brother serving time now for accessory to murder. We didn't have video games, our parents monitored what we watched on TV, we were in church every time the doors were open but still my brother was involved in murder. He is doing his time but I can only hope that he has learned his lesson and when he gets out that he will keep his life straight. My brother was in the wrong place at the wrong and was too scared to go for help for fear his life would the next one taken. So I don't think we can base this on video games, TV shows or even bad parenting. We had great parents but this still happened and my brother is serving 40 years for the crime he helped commit by not going after help.

For this kid I'm afraid there is no hope. According to the article in the paper here he has boasted that he has done this before, robbed and killed many times. I can only imagine how his Mother must feel. We can only hope that this kid gets put away for a very long time. Too bad that eventually he'll get out and start all over again.

I'm always torn in the idea of justice vs. recompense, especially with young offenders. Look at Susan Atkins, one of the Manson Girls - a confessed killer. Now she's 60, dying of cancer, regretful for all that she did. She wants to be released on compassionate grounds to live out her last few months. Keeping her in prison serves the purpose of sending a message that punishment will never be over for an act of stupidity and insanity 40 years ago. What she did was evil, but is she inherently evil? The kid in question is 16, if tried and sentenced as an adult he'll likely be in his 40s if he's released at all. Is he really inherently evil? I hate to make that judgment, but he had to be put away for a long time to see if there is really a redeemable person under all that hate.

Ugly. Ugh. And Sociopaths lack empathy...missing completely. Upbringing, parents, environmental influences, have little to do with it...except perhaps add to the level of violent behavior....well, so research/studies have shown anyway.

Anyone see the horrific story about the 7 (SEVEN!) yr old in Alice, Australia? Broke into the local Zoo very late at night and went on a killing spree of the zoo creatures.....and video showed his face...totally empty. No expression at all as he killed the animals. This little sick animal will be a very dangerous adult in a flash..

Yes! I saw that article about the 7 yr. old in Australia....probably a good example of a person "born evil" i.e., a sociopathic child.  There is a difference between a sociopath, psychopath and a person who just "went down the wrong path" (like Janie's brother) and can change their behavior.  Even Susan from the Manson Family, don't know her history but it's possible in her case that drugs were involved or she simply went down the wrong path by following a cult leader.

Interesting that this is now a theology question as well--I asked my huband all the time how can got let this happen, and he references the bible, stating that mans purpose is to constantly improve and become enlighted (paraphrase)

So if Sociapth is inclurable as of now (and I feel it is at this point - I have known a couple) is it our duty to be on guard - and understand that evil in its own form exists on its own and must be prepared for. Also, he thinks God wants us to find cures for stuff. But that lead to all sort of marking of people (I am not all that opposed to that, but what if an evil person gets in charge of that etc etc.

If upbringing were a major cause, can you all imagine how many serial killers would be out there?? We have to thank God that they are rare.

One sign is torturing animals--any kid who has ever really hurt animals should be watched carefully his or her whole life--they are the prime Socio's and Phycopaths.

The cult thing is another matter. Some people are very weak and INFLUENCED by charismatic Phycotic Leaders and commit horrible crimesl--often in the NAME of god!!

Look at the "suicide bombers" etc...Mass Psychosis---well I go on.

I truely belive that most people have good in them. BUT not all--
