In the extreme northeast Ohio it's a faucet inside and a spigot outside.

I know it as a faucet but people here in FLorida also call it a tap or tapwater or potable water. I'm in the water business so I hear it all - WC for toilet, etc.

When I was growing up we called it a spicket, but now that I am a purchasing agent for a plumbing supply company, it's a faucet. Either a Kitchen Faucet, a Lavatory Faucet, a tub and shower valve, ect.

Oh, I actually had a very RUDE customer come in last week and called it a handset. He got really mad b/c we had no idea what the heck he was talking about and he didn't want to be inconvienced to get off of his cell phone to actually explain what he wanted.

Faucet. I don't believe I've ever said the word "spigot" in my life.

What about on Seinfeld (Frogger episode) where Slippery Pete referred to the electrical socket as "holes..." I've called them "holes" ever since, LOL.

faucet or sometimes tap. It's a spigot when it's outside or bunged into a keg or barrel. Cabinets instead of cupboard.

I'm from NYC, my wife is from New Bedford MA. We had to get over plenty of nomenclature differences. To me it is a milkshake, to her it is a frappe. To me it is a rubber band, to her it is an elastic. She says that there's a ruf over our heads, I pronounce it rufe. I call it a traffic circle, she calls it a round-about. And so forth for the last 33+ years.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!

In Texas, and in our household, I hear all three: spigot, tap and faucet.

The problem with having lived all over the country growing up is I have way too many weird terms that all blend.

Inside it's the faucet, or occasionally tap or even sink (which is the basin I know but we refer to the whole works as the sink). Outside it's also faucet or spigot. In the dog sink it's spigot because it has a spray thingie.

In GA, we call it faucet if it is inside.  If it is outside, I sometimes say the "outside spigot", but I clairfy the outside thing for some reason!  But, I keep my hose attaced to it, so I mostly just say "turn on the hose, please"

I call it a faucet, no matter where it's located.

a cabinet is what you put your guns in. Cupboards are for dishes.

I can't believe I'm the only one who says spicket !!!

You're not the only one hon, I'm from NC even if I do live in Florida now. In NC its a spicket(spigot) or you can go outside and get water from the water hose. They also use faucet and tap but I'm from the country so spicket is the ticket.

My dishes, etc are in my kitchen cabinets, I'm not sure what a cupboard is. Is that a board you set cups on?

If one is dealing with a professional the outside faucet is called a bib or hose bib. Inside: faucet or tap, never called it a spigot, that word resembles what grow into flies.  Kegs get tapped around here.

Faucet. And this is one where we don't differ from our neighbors.

The spigot (also pronounched spicket) is where you hook up the hose outside, or where thirsty kids that have been told to PLAY OUTSIDE drink from. lol.

And while we call it "tap water" if you have city water (we don't, we have spring water from our well which comes from an underground river-- it's delicious), if you're getting a drink from the tap that means beer in a bar. lol. Tap is simply an adjective in "tap water", not a noun.

This is so funny. I read a few, then replied, then went back and read the rest... and krbmc is from the same area pretty much exactly of SC that I am but she says when she was in SC she called it a spigot.. and I have never ever once heard someone call it a spigot inside!

I think some things must change with time... and probably the influence of television/movies and stuff...
