Me and three of my roommates call it soda. But we are native californians. Our other roommate is from Minisota (sp) and she calls it POP> we make fun of her because being form miniSODA, you would think they would call it soda. We have renamed baking soda in our house to baking pop, we get a good laugh out of it. |

When I lived in Western NY (Seneca Falls) I called it pop. Now that I live in Albany (eastern NY) I call it soda cuz that's what they all it here. Weird that there's such a big difference in name within a few hundred miles in the same state! |

| Grenada county is in BRIGHT red. I haven't a clue what that means. Everyone here calls it all Coke, and I must admit to doing it too. However, while ordering drinks, I never go generic with "coke." I always order the specific drink. What chaps my @$$ is when I actually order a Coke and someone goes, "What flavor?" A COKE, you moron! A COKE! And again, I get, "What flavor?" I've literally had to specify 4 or 5 times before they get it. "Der. Oh. A COKE!" |

COKE = Coca Cola, POP = a noise
SODA = flavored carbonated beverage....
LOL ...we call it Soda here..but when I lived in texas they called it Coke....
"what kind of coke do you want?"
"HUH? I dont want coke, I want sprite!" LOL
then again, they call bags at the groc store SACKS weirdos!! (hehe...kidding...i love texas)
Ok, Mary...I am originally from Texas, but since I have lived in Florida, for 24 years, with those displaced Northerners, I have learned to call it Soda...I have been teased by people, when I say, "I am Fixin to do something", they say," So what are you fixing?" "What is broken"? Smart@**....Arrrggh!
I get picked on for saying "fixin" too! LOL Also I used to say "will you cut off the light?" instead of turn off the light. The looks I got for that one!

| In Pittsburgh we say Pop, but I lived in New Orleans for years and would say Cool Drinks, there were even neon signs in bars that said cool drinks. We used to fix to go make groceries there too instead of grocery shopping, we made groceries. |

| I gre wup calling everything "coke". When you ordered a coke the wiatresses asked what kind and you said 7 up or dr. pepper, etc. LOL. After many years in the Pacific Northwest I started calling it pop but I get teased here in Florida where folks call it soda so I have tried that on a few times but it feels wierd. |

I say soda, lots around here say coke... But I actually looked at that map and realized how often I hear and even say "soft drink". If I'm in a restaurant or something I usually say soda, but if you're throwing a party you say "You bring the cups and I'll bring the soft drinks"... it's funny I never really thought of that before... |
