A few little stories from our household, mainly about the effect Radar is having on Sophie and Sophie is having on Radar:

Sophie is vocal... she's a mild barker, but she whines, moans, growls, howls, and makes all other kinds of noises.  Radar has always basically been silent.  He'll bark if he REALLY has to pee or if another dog comes in the yard-- maybe-- but that's it. Yet, the other day he was trying to get me to play and he made rattie noises! "Mreroirr" or something like that.  It was funny!

I got home from work and went to take them outside and they both wanted to play.  Sophie tried to get me to give her a bellyrub, but the second she rolled over, Radar bowled her over.  She was rolling around like "whoa! whoa!" It was funny. Then everytime Sophie tried to get to me, Radar was pushing her away, sidestepping in front of her... It was all done in fun, not meanness (with a little jealousy) But I finally picked up Sophie just to get a good hug in.

The other morning I woke up earlier than usual, at 6:45, while everyone else was sleeping. I decided to call the dogs, so I very softly made a clicking noise with my tongue I do to call them sometimes.  That was it.  Didn't even say there names... And I hear "Roowoowoo Ruff! Bark! Woof!" as they run in.  Before 7am.  Luckily my parents were sleeping soundly. Silly ratties.

When I give Sophie treats I typically have her either sit or "up" (on her hindlegs).  Radar sits or "catches" (toss the treat to him-- if he doesn't catch it he has to wait for us to pick it up and try tossing again).  Only now, Radar has started jumping up to meet it!

And, if you guys remember, Radar would casually chase our cat Tobi... well today, out of nowhere, they chased hiim into the livingroom! Admittedly though, Tobi may have provoked it.  He'll often hide himself somewhere, like in a chair or behind a houseplant, and wallop them with his paw as they walk past...

cute! it's amazing how dogs learn things from each other...I had a male dobie who out of the blue, started giving us "hugs" (he'd put the top of his head against our knees and lean in as hard as he could to get scratches behind his ears ). Well, the other dogs picked up on the fact that we thought it was cute/sweet, and they ALL started giving us these "hugs," even our 13 yr old lab. Rosie and Buddy taught it to the ratties, and now even they give us these hugs...funny, since they never knew the dobie that started the tradition (he died about 6 months before we got the ratties).

Buddy - gone but never forgotten.
