Hi Folks,
I flew from New Delhi to Pune (still India) to do more training on Wednesday, and am doing my gig here in Pune... countdown to heading home on the 12th. And yes, I am VERY aware that I will be an American outside fo America on 9/11, and it feels bad.
There is a McDonald's about a block from the site where I am doing training, and so we have been walking down there for dinner. No hamburgers (McVeggie burger though) and outside of the place is a stray puppy. Loads of stray dogs in New Delhi and Pune, and it makes me very sad, but this one reminds me of Murphy, who I miss more than I might want to admit. He's a rough little pup, and I've been feeding him a McChicken sandwich each night for the last two nights. He is skitish of people, and would not eat from my hand at first, but he did tonight. I tried to pet him, but he would not have any of it. I think too many people have shoo'ed him away for him to trust a human hand coming his way.
I've named him Skeeter, and am working on getting one of the Technical Leads here to take him in. They have a different perspective on pets here, and not sure I'm making any headway, but I may not be able to just leave him behind, even if Skeet-baby is developing some feral habits. Not sure what I can do here... importing animals to the US is tricky and expensive, even if I can pull it off. Just not sure I can let yet another piece of my soul die if I can't place him somewhere in India. I am committed and just turn my back on himseems something horrible to me.
Wish me luck here, folks. I don't know what to do... or what I can do. Or what the right thing to do is. Just feeling it. Maybe I'm just homsick.

| Oh Mitch. My throat just tightened up and its hard to swallow. I can't stand stuff like that. Hurts to bad. Prayers that God will find a safe place for this little pup before you have to leave. |

Ok... I'm in tears, Mitch. I'm sitting out in the sunroom on the chaise lounge with four dogs nestled next to me... who are safe and healthy and loved. I close my eyes and can imagine the helplessness you must feel over this little guy who has so innocently wormed his way into your heart. What to do? What CAN you do? It's those things in this life we cannot control that often hurt us the worst. And, it's often the attitudes of others that we cannot understand or change that leaves us bumfuzzled. :=( I wish you safety during your time there... and I know you.. as well as your family (and that includes US)... will feel more at ease once you are back on American soil. Take care and thank you for checking in! |

I hope you can do something Mitch, I really do... But if you can't, at least you've fed him. I'm sure that chicken is going to very good work to making him healthier. And maybe, since he's willing to eat from you, he'll be less timid about approaching another kind soul in the future... maybe your socialization will help him worm his way into a native's heart... |

| Aw, poor doggie. Do they have dogs as pets over there? (I honestly don't know the culture well enough to know....) I hope you can find a home for him, I imagine there would be a lot of obstacles in trying to bring him back home. |

Awe, Mitch, do you have any pics of him? Good luck, i hope you can bring him back. They have been letting military people bring dogs from Iraq. Maybe you can do it. |

Hi Folks.
Thanks for the support. Lynn (my wife) has been great support, too.
Yes, people do keep dogs here, and they are usually working dogs, but not always. Stray and feral dogs roam the streets in packs and they are so sad to see. PETA wants dogs to be "free" and not kept in the "bondage" of being a pet. They should see what I have seen... these dogs are emaciated and desperate.
I've asked the guys who worked weekends to feed Skeeter, since I wasn't at the office. I'll see him again tomorrow, I hope. I took a driver out today and went to the McDonalds, but didn't see him around.

| It's a tough situation Mitch. I'm sorry. But thanks on behalf of Skeeter for that extra chicken, every little bit is gold for hungry stray. |

Mc Skeeter says "thanks" for the grub Even if you are not able to get him into a home environment, the kindness and nutrition you have given him does make a difference in his life. You can't save them all and this is nearly an impossible situation but what you have done for him so far exceeds what others have done for him. I wish you luck and I hope it works out that you are able to him a home, health, and happiness. |

| That is such a tough situation. Poor little skeeter. I hope he finds a home. It would be so cool if you could bring him home, but if not at least you touched his life in some way! You are such a kind soul Mitch. |

| (((HUGS))) Mitch! You've likely done more than anyone else, I'm sure, and I know Skeeter appreciates it even if he's too afraid to say so. |

I hope you can find someone who wants to adopt him Mitch, if you cannot bring him home. Good luck and bless you for caring about Skeeter. It makes me sad to read this, I guess different culture different perspective about how they see animal as part of their life. |
