I agree -- take your furkids with you! There is no way I'd leave my home and not take my dogs with me. Please be safe and do what you have to... to keep your dogs safe too, because they are part of your family. I agree with Deb... if the hotel gives you grief about it, contact the media. I would want my dogs with me.. and not in a shelter somewhere. Good luck, Donna!

Oh yay.. I actually read a bit more throuroghly and see you are taking them... Good good... I know that takes a load off.

I called Mortons Animal hospital.. they are taking animals first come, first serve BUT (good news) she said they are loaded right now because of the holiday but they all go home Tuesday Morning so you could bring them in on Tuesday.  Hope this provides a good option for you.. the number again is 903-675-5708 so you can call for directions.  They are  closed at noon today and are closed Monday for the holiday.

Remember to take Vaccination records

Ok you guys... after a good night sleep I have decided that we will take the ratties with us and just risk getting into trouble!! LOL They are small and are not barkers so they should be pretty easy to hide. I feel better taking them with me biut I am worried about being dishonest.

And just so you all know, I can not get another hotel, they are all booked up within a 6 hour drive from here. We have to book hotel rooms days in advance before we know where the storm will pass after landfall. And by now, you can not find a hotel anywhere. I tried yesterday to get on the east side of us and no luck at all. But that is what we people along the coast do, we make reservations for a week once a storm is named and learn the landfall area and time frame. This ties up hotel rooms across a large area.

But as of this morning, Molly and Busta are coming with us. We have family members that will start arriving today and more that will arrive tomorrow. Then we will all leave Monday morning (early) and get the heck out of dodge!!! LOL

I am gald you are taking them. I read somewhere that because people refused to evacuate without their pets, with the last hurricanes, the shelters are allowing pets, to protect peoplr from staying behind because of not being able to take them. Athens Texas is where most of my family lives, except my mom, and sister, and my sister's husband and kids. If I can get ahold of any of them, I will ask them if they have considered taking in evacuees, and their pets.

As Ratbone's Pet Publicist I just read an e-mail from Petfinder.com reminding shelter about grant money available to them during these types of emergencies. I don't know if that helps you in particular, but it means there is money and concern out there for pets during emergencies now. Not sure how the money will shake out (more shelters???) but at least it means your eyes and ears open because someone may be making accomodations for situaitons just like yours.

Hey donna, I know you got the pups taken care of, but just wanted to wish you good luck. My parents just got the mandatory evacuation notice too, so they are hauling out of dodge. As of right now, the counties below us are mandatory evac, and we probably will be late sun or early mon depending. Check in when you can, I've been through this too umpteen times, so I know when to worry. I'm pmming you my number just in case and so maybe you can check in. BE SAFE!!!

Go to Petfriendly.com.  Search for a motel that will take dogs in the area you are planning on going to.

doginmysuitcase.com  I posted a link to this website last night. But I guess no one saw it. You just put in the city and state where you want to stay and it gives you a list of hotels that allow you to have pets

How great!!! Doggie Camp..or, storm camp!!! Great work guys!!!  Glad all the pups are safe!

Looks like Gustav is not a real threat any longer....LOTS of rain and blustery winds, but seems you all will be fine. The 'eye" is dead...means the storm will weaken...so good news.

BUT..then there is "Hard-Hearted HANNA" on the way to Savannah!!! Hehheh! (I'll be in 'Bama)

Take care all, and so glad the pups are safe!!
