This was last night.  I actually had to go get the kid from the ER when she came in, she ended up coming to our unit........

 Abandoned newborn found in bushes
(WSYR-TV)

Syracuse, New York (WSYR-TV) - Syracuse police are trying to find out who abandoned a newborn baby in some bushes along the 1500 block of South Avenue early Thursday evening.

A six-year-old girl and her grandmother were playing hide and seek near a vacant lot when the little girl made the discovery.  She told her grandmother she found a doll.  When the grandmother realized the doll was really a baby, police were called.

The baby's umbilical cord was still attached and it's estimated the baby was less than an hour old.

“There are safe places that people can leave a baby,” says Syracuse Police Sgt. Tom Connellan. “Leaving the baby in the bushes like that – if the baby hadn’t been found, it probably wouldn’t have survived for long.”

The baby is in good condition at Crouse Hospital, but police say there was no need to put the baby's life in jeopardy. Police say the baby's mother will likely face charges.

Police are urging anyone who may know the mother of the child to give them a call at 442-5222. All calls will be kept confidential.

Thankfully she was found quickly. I'm no expert, but I don't think a newborn can survive long without assistance. So very, very sad what some people do with a life entrusted to them.

This kind of crap just KILLS ME!!! I know a lot of you don't know much about me, but my husband and I have been trying for a baby for 8 MONTHS (which in the grand scheme of things I realize is not long) and we haven't even had the slightest chance of getting pregnant!

When I hear that people do things like this, I literally want to throw up! I mean, why can people who don't care or want children have them seemingly so easy, and those of us who really want them and can care for them cannot!! UGHUGHUGHUGH!!!!!

There is nothing better than wine and chocolate!

Exactlt Phil.  She was FREEZING, couldn't even get a temp to register.  And with no clamp on her cord it was just a matter of time before she would have bled out.

I just don't understand people. Unwanted pregnancies happen and most people either prepare for the baby or put it up for adoption. And I seriously doubt I could have gotten out of bed to put my baby in some bushes less than an hour after I gave birth, even if I hadn't had a lot of demerol and a c-section. I wonder if it was someone other than the mother who did it.

That is so awful... I just don't understand... if you're pregnant and want to give the child up, just contact an adoption agency there are tons of possible parents who would love to adopt a baby... but when a baby is abandoned like that it typically is put in fostercare or dies...
