Ok... I guess I'm being silly....

But last night after Bailey and I returned from our training session... we were all sitting out in the sunroom.  The lights were off... piano music playing softely.... water from the fountain could be heard, and the reflections from the halogen lights in the fountain danced across the wood ceiling.  Riley was in the chaise lounge with Hoss, Lil'Bit and Buster.  I was in the swing and of course Bailey was snuggled with me.

Out of the blue... amidst the peacefulness of the moment.... it hit me that Hoss will be 12 on August 28... Lil'Bit and Buster are both 8-1/2... and Bailey will be 3 in October '08.  The thoughts of not having ANY of my furkids descended on me like a ton of bricks.

Do you ever think about things like this?  Hoss is the very first "little" dog I ever owned, and he's so special to me.  But  they are all special... and the thoughts of losing any one of them is so depressing.

I know... enjoy the good times, right?  And I do !  It's just that occasionally and often when I least expect it... I think about not having one or all of them, and it really is depressing.

We think about it too Nora .  We don't really know how old Max is but  at least 8 or  9  He is getting more white specks in his black head and white around his muzzle.   Just never know.

Cute that Bit, Buster and Hoss were all in the lounge chair with Riley and you & Bailey boy were on the swing

Nora, I know what you mean. It's one of those thoughts that creep up out of our subconscious when we least expect. We all know that more than likely we will out live our beloved pets. It's just a fact - a fact that breaks our hearts, and we go into it know that, but it sure doesn't ease the pain at all.

I've shared before how hubby caught me being sad within 1 to 2 days of Daisy coming home. I was just holding her in my lap and watching her sleep. He asked what was wrong and I said, "I already love her so much and one day I'm going to lose her and it's going to kill me." Just talking about it now makes me tear up. My Anna girl is aproximately 8-10 years old and both my kitties turned 10 (hard to believe) in April so I know I've got limited years left with them

Well.... it's good to know I'm not the only one who thinks about these things. I have made arrangements SHOULD something happen to both Riley and I... my furkids are taken care of. But sometimes I think about losing them and it just tears me up.

I don't dwell on it... but as you said, Tracey... sometimes thoughts such as these filter their way into my brain when I least expect it.

I'm the same way. Doesn't happen often but just the thought of losing one of them tears me up. Loco is 8 years old now...whippets can live 16 years but still...that's only 8 more years if we're lucky. And the thought of any of my Lollipop Kids growing old .....well, i don't go there because I'll start bawling.

I was just talking about this last night with one of my Rattie friends, Nora!!  Same thing… how it hit me that all my babies are getting older…. all of my babies I’ve had for 5-6 years now.  And since their ages are all estimated, they’re probably between 7-10 years old, except Benny, who I know is only 3.

When I adopted Sasha at 13, I knew my time with her was limited… but I wanted to make the best of the time we DID have… and I was blessed with 5+ years with that old girl, when I thought to myself if I got 2-3 years, I was lucky…

Try not to think about losing them or when they die  – just enjoy them while you have them…  HUGS!

I felt the same way before Sasha died, and I made it... and you will too... it's not easy, but your other babies need you, and that's what helped me a lot - I had to be OK for my other babies...

I think about this all the time mostly because Fred and Alice are pretty much the same age. I think OMG what if I lose them both around the same time.  Normally that's where I start to cry. Then I think about their life before me and how anyone could have been rotten to these two. I cry more. I just want them to have the best lives while they are here with me. Then I think I will be okay when they pass.

I try not to think like that, when I start I try to think on all the good memories. We recently went to visit a family member who is dieing and he wanted a party. He said that he didn't want to waist any of his remaining time being sad. I try to take that to heart.

or you can get another puppy.

I think the same think too, when I look at Daxter I cannot imagine how my life would be if he is not with me anymore. I had lost some of my dog in the past when they got sick but you get over it, you will miss them from time to time and just try to remember all the good times that we spend together. Sometimes I just wish that they live forever. Now you guys make me sad reading all of this

Dan-Just your way of saying "Can't Imagine"

I can see the gray creeping in on Ernie's head and his arthritic little limp first thing in the morning.

Nope, can't think of it now...kisses to his little head are overdue.
