I'm really not sure where to post this. Anyway, I'm wondering if anyone else has this problem. Amlet sleeps with us. When he falls into a very deep sleep, if he's bumped, or accidentally kicked, or even sat on by pumpkin (which is common) he lashes out, yelps and snaps. It doesn't even have to be rough or anything, and it is only when he's completely asleep. He bit my foot once for accidentally nudging him. After he does it he's groggy and seems like he has no idea what is going on. Its so weird. I have no idea why he does this, and I have no idea if there is anything I can do. We've been considering making them sleep in their crate, but I hate that because I love having them with us. I feel bad making them do that now, but it might be necessary. Anyone else have a dog that goes crazy like this? |

Mitzy has almost nipped me when I've moved her at night but only when she's deeply asleep...she doesn't know who or what is "messing" with her. I just ignore it...it's done on purpose. I don't know what could be done about it short of having her sleep somewhere else and that's not going to happen! It's only happened twice in almost 4 years and I really can't sleep if I don't have my Mitzy nestled next to me. When I was in Atlanta recently I didn't have her with me....I really missed her wittle body snuggled up to me. I cuddled Morgandy instead but it just wasn't the same! LOL |

| yeah, i agree. it would be hard for me to sleep without them, no matter how vicious he is, lol. He's bit me twice, it hurts! I know he doesn't know what he's doing though. He's not a biter. |

| Daisy has only very rarely gotten growly, but not snippy, when sound sound asleep and bumped or moved. Anna nipped my thumb pretty good once, but she was in a DEEP sleep on the couch and for some insane reason (or lack of reason) I wanted to rub her head with no warning....bad idea - LOL. Not her fault, of course. We don't have an issue with Anna in bed as she's a 60lb husky/shepherd mix and wants NOTHING to do with bed covers or body heat, ha ha ha!!! |

| Mitzy's only growled and put her teeth on my hand...then apparently realizing it was human flesh and hearing my voice she stopped. I got my hand in between Skipper and Sorley the other night when Sorley was trying to take Skipper's bully stick...that was an ouch...made my thumb bleed. My own fault though! |

| thinking about this, i guess it makes sense that he wouldn't like to be startled when he's asleep. I'm just hoping that he doesn't cause any real damage someday. we've been making him sleep on top of the blankets, but he usually sneaks underneath eventually. |

| If Bailey is in a deep sleep, and he gets "hit" with a foot... or one of the other dogs invades his space and accidentally hits him... he growls... he never offers to bite or snap, but he does growl, and we simply remove the foot... or the other dog backs off... there is never any confrontation. |

| Bailey is at the bottom of our doggie pecking order. He's (1) the youngest (2) the last one to enter the pack and (3) the most sensitive personality-wise. He very willingly took his place at the bottom of the pecking order and seems to be ok with it. |

| amlet was the first, but he has a very passive personality. I think its hard for him to handle though. He's afraid of his shadow. He does try to be the head dog sometimes, but he just isn't that kind of dog. |

I think Amlet issue is normal. I think Kasey is odd. lol
When Kasey goes in deep sleep, he sleeps with his eyes open. Before my husband realized that I was right that Kasey sleeps with his eyes open. Kasey would be sleeping on the pile of pillows on the end of the couch.... and when the kids goes up to get their stuff animal or doll or something, Kasey snaps.... so that's normal... but they thought he was awake, not normal.... my husband was shocked to see that Kasey snapped and still didn't believe me and thought that Kasey was awake, not asleep.....
Well, after the kids went to bed... Kasey snuggled up against me, and i noticed that he went into deep sleep again.... I called my husband over, and told him to wave your hand in front of his face..... Kasey didn't even flinch... and sure enough he finally believed me, then i woke him up and proved it to him that is how Kasey sleeps.... and you can tell, kasey was asleep because he gave me the expression of "what"? "what did you want, i was alseep".... So now we make sure weather Kasey is awake or asleep, we call his name and forwarn him that we are coming by him.
issue resolved. he sleeps with us sometimes... first with the kids, and then after a while, he comes down stairs and sleeps with me. Both of my other dogs, one mine and one foster, sleeps in their crate. i'm happier that way.... otherwise i'll be grumpy in the morning. lol |

| Angus growls when in a deep sleep, he snapped once when I accidentally startled him from behing and he was sleeping, but the second he heard my voice, he woke up and looked confused. I think that some dogs are just startled easily and its how they deal with it. I know that i "growl" whenever someone messes with my beauty rest...lol |

I don't think its weird but then again I have been known to swing at people for waking me so I can relate. I once hit my sister with a doll that was by my bed when we were kids because she startled me when I was asleep. Lilly normally isn't too cranky when asleep but she has been before. But if I am asleep or even laying down and someone comes near my bed she goes nuts and acts like Lilly the attack dog. she seems to think I am in need of protecting if I am asleep. But he has always been like that. When I was married my husband would have to come get in the bed about the same time as me or he would have to sleep on the couch because she would go nuts and so would my pit. The only thing they didn't mind near me when I was asleep was the cats and each other but even my best friend's kid can't come near me if I am asleep. |

| Our black lab, Sue (who also sleeps with her eyes wide open), often growls in her sleep. I've seen her snap at nothing at all, but I can't say that she's ever snapped at me for waking her up. Occasionally Pixie growls while she's snoozing, but that's about it. She's down for the count at 10 p.m. No matter what's going on, Pixie beds down, and even if you pick her up, she's like a limp noodle until sunrise. Sometimes I think she previously lived with old people, LOL. |

| Jack, who can be barky at strangers, has never done this when he's sleeping. He has always slept with me in the same spot in my bed (against my legs) I have accidentally knocked him out of bed before when I was moving my legs. All of a sudden I hear a thump on the floor and hear him shake his head. I felt so bad...he'd jump back up on the bed and climb back in. He's growled at my 7yr old daughter when she would try to pick him up and he was laying down, but not asleep yet. He would growl like he was saying "leave me alone". |

| Bailey sleeps with me and is usually down by my feet. If I move, she never does anything but when she sleeps with Dillon and he moves his feet she growls and snaps at him, he hates when she does that. Of course a lot of times I don't dare move my feet or turn over cause I don't want to disturb her. LOL |
