Oscar has always had a few pimple-like bumps on his head but recently several bumps appeared on his ears.  I'd say they covered about half of the ear. The skin was dried out and when I rubbed his ears, a black powder like residue would rub off on my fingers.  Well, I remember reading a post from Nora about feeding coconut oil so I finally decided to buy some. ( I had been meaning to for awhile)  I had read that it can be used topically also so I rubbed some on Oscars ears.  The dryness went away almost immediately and the bumps are now gone after rubbing the coconut oil onto his ears twice a day for less than a week.  I also used some to soften Luckys paw pads when they got to feeling really rough.  I add a little to their food now too.  They love the taste and will lick it off the spoon.

I know there are a few pups out there with skin problems.  I highly recommend giving this a try.  The stuff isn't cheap but it did save me a trip to the vet.  From what I've read though,  you have to make sure to get virgin coconut oil that is not refined and not hydrogenated.  The link below  was recommended to me and I bought the Gold Label type.

I'm a BIG believer in coconut oil. I feed once a day and add a teaspoon each day to my dogs' food.. Like you... I also use it on their paws to help keep them soft. And... I use it on my hands too!

I recently discovered how awesome coconut oil is; my brother is a firm believer in it....he spent several weeks in Tonga (South Pacific) and the natives there live by it. I had a horrible skin irritation on both of my arms earlier this year...went to dermatologist and they gave me prescription skin creams...they didn't work.

My brother suggested the coconut oil...he actually ordered me some straight from Tonga (you can't just buy it here in stores...not yet anyway). Well my skin cleared up immediately.....and now I use it on my face as moisturizer...better then anything you can buy at a department store, trust me.

Drinking Coconut water has soooo many benefits as well. Also...if you like to grill....try coconut charcoal....great for the environment and makes for a really tasty burger.

HUGE believer in the coconuts!

xoxo,
-Nat

I have friends who use coconut oil in cooking for themselves all the time-- they use it instead of oil or PAM spray or whatnot when they cook something on the stove, they use it as butter on toast, etc... They swear by it. Apparently it's amazing stuff...

However, I could never use it... well, not never, but not at this time in my life. My younger sister is DEATHLY allergic to anything from a coconut. And you wouldn't believe how many shampoos/soaps/bodywashes/conditioners have it in it, let alone food (like Chips A Hoy!). Lots of cookies do, and my older sister and I were my younger sister's taste testers so now I'm very sensitive to the taste of coconut... I like it, but I can't just butter my toast with it. lol.
My sister can't be in the same room as it. She breaks out in hives if she walks barefoot on a floor where someone stood who used a bodywash that had coconut in it. No joke, it happened. She has to scrub out showers and such before she can use them with scrubbing bubbles or if someoen used a coconut product before her (like at a dorm, or if we forget to check before we buy something) she will break out all over. It's insane. Her boyfriend used a bodywash with it, and she got sick from cuddling with him.
Sigh.
She also is allergic to pretty much every third thing in the world.

I just bought some today it was $12.99 for 16oz and it is the extra virgin unrefined kind.. Hopefully it helps with Kami's ears. She freaks out if we try touch her ears and she has a lot of scabby bumps in them, but the crazy thing is that she lets Macie clean her ears every night .. but we can't touch them.. hmm..

I hope it helps

Stupid Question, is this found in the grocery store?
I'd love to try it on Ernie's paws.
