So get this...

I was driving home, and saw a little black puppy lose in the street, maybe a block from my home.  A car nearly hit him, and was moving around him, and the poor little guy was scared.  I stopped and called to him, and he reluctantly came to me.  I picked him up, and he was shaking and panting, but otherwise seemed OK.  He had fleas.  What he didn't have, were tags.  A nice, new red white and blue collar, but no tags.

So I go down the pool that we have in our subdivision, because it's packed... parking lot is full, and I hope the pup's owners are there.  I take the pup in and shop him around... look familiar? Just found him lose not two blocks from here, etc.  People have seen the dog running around all day, but no one knows who's pup he is.  All day... and I'm the first one who GAD and stops to help him.   Anyway, one person I don't know says, "You are Mitch, aren't you?"  And then it comes back to me, the whole poop incident, where Murphy's public poop got elevated status on the HOA members web site.  And I'm surrounded... probably 100+ people in the pool area that is meant for no more than 60, and I'm thinking this might not go so well.

Then the owner comes up... he's been looking for the dog, he's so glad I found him, it belongs to his fiancé and she probably would call off the wedding if he lost her dog, etc.  He... He... is the guy who took the picture of Murphy's poop and he is the guy who posted it on the HOA website, complaining about declining property values because of things like poop left in public areas.  The girl who ID'ed me a moment earlier then ID'ed him and called him out in front of everyone.

"At least he keeps HIS dogs on a leash!  JERK!"  She didn't say Jerk, but that will do for my needs here.  She says a few other choice things.  It was cool she did, but too bad she was drunk.   I walk with the guy back to his car and he thanks me repeatedly.  He doesn't apologize for the poop post, but that's OK.  I can see he's wishing he hadn't gone there.   We part and when Spencer (my 9 year old son, who was with me through all of this) says, "You know what you are Dad?  You are a SUPER HERO!"  And we did the hero-action handshake (I can't show you... it's a secret).

In their own time... the things you do will come back to you.  Good will return good, and jerk-face will return jerk-face.  My karma is feeling pretty good right now.  Not a bad day.

 What goes around comes around. Like Dan said, good people "get admired, get credit, get superhero secret handshakes. Jerks get called jerks by drunk people and everybody else."

I am a firm believer in karma...  Great story!!!

!!! Have you been peeking in my window?!!! How did you know I wear tights?!  And the high heels... you saw that too?!  Well, they went so well with the pink feather boa, I just couldn't resist.

I think the thing that gets me most is that what I did really wasn't heroic... not in the least.  I think at best, it was just the kind thing to do.   I'm sounding judgemental, I know, but it really bothers me that several people at the pool had seen the dog running around, apparently all day, and no one even tried to help him.  I like where I live.  Not so much for some people around here though.

This story brought SUCH a smile to my face. Thanks Mitch. That's awesome. Even if you don't think it is superhero worthy, your son does and that's what counts in my book.
