Chapter Two of the adventures of Wally Wagtail and Cheryl Wordweaver
Wally is an awesome little man. He gallantly put up with Aka wanting to play non-stop and only barked at him when he had had enough, except for the very last thing before bedtime last night. Aka had been trying to get him to play and Wally was tired, he quickly flipped Aka down with his paw and mounted him!!! Aka got the hint BIG time. Of course ten minutes later Aka had forgotten and wanted to play again but it was bedtime so we all went to sleep.
This morning we all got up, went potty, romped and played and got the wiggles out. Then I got a call at 8:30 AM from Tanya saying they were about three hours from the exit so Wally and I loaded up and hit the road. They beat us there by about 20 minutes, but that was okay, they had time to run get some fast food lunch and then we met up on the porch of the Cracker Barrel.
Wally was a big hit with everyone coming and going to the restaurant. I was very pleased; a little girl about 7 years old came towards us, stopped and asked me if she could pet my dog. Her mom was right there with her and we both started to tell her how smart she was to ask first!! I then told her she could come and pet him. Of course Wally was ready and more than willing to get some loving!
Then his new family arrived and he headed off for Maryland!! I miss him and I only had him overnight. He is a real sweetheart. Tanya seems like a neat person. I guess the fellow was her hubby; we didn't take much time to visit, as they really were ready to hit the road.
He is such an awesome little traveler. He slept the first 45 minutes of the drive and then woke up and stretched and then did the funniest thing with his mouth. He sort of smacked his lips like, “my what a dry mouth I have” or “hmm, I could use a little snacker”!! I needed a caffeine fix, so we stopped at the next exit and I got a Dr. Pepper (I like my caffeine cold) and a biscuit with egg from Burger King. I poured a small cup of water for Wally and he drank up.
Then he put the laser eye on my sandwich. I know I shouldn’t have, but I broke off the smallest bit of egg and let him have a bite. He licked my fingers till I thought the skin was going off!! We then got back on the road and made our way to Rocky Mount.
As I said earlier, Wally was a big hit with the folks at Cracker Barrel. Everyone commented on how cute he was and one man stopped and said his friend had a dog just like him. I asked, “A Rat Terrier?” and he replied that he didn’t know but that this dog looked just like his friend’s dog and how neat that dog was.
Wally took the compliment and rolled over on his back to give it a good scratch on the concrete! This got a big laugh from several folks nearby. He then hopped up on the bench beside me and settled down. He is a real snuggle bug and leaned against me. I tell you, I kept falling in love with that little man.
He looked a bit confused when Tanya arrived and took his lead. I bent down and cupped his face in my hands and told him that this was the very last transition he had to face, that now he was with his forever family and they were taking him home. Tanya picked him up, I took a quick picture and they headed off.
I’m happy that I was able to do this transport. It was fun and also educational. I found out that my twin bed is NOT big enough for three ratties, and me even if two of them are little ones! When Wally and I got to my house on Friday, we were a little tired. I don’t know if you saw the story on Ratbone Extra or not, but my car wouldn’t start. Lois and family were great and stayed with us until the tow truck came. It was a long afternoon but we made it home and with a much better car.
After all the introductions and then some romping time in the yard, we all came in, had a little nosh of food and then I went to lie down for a little rest. I was not alone long. Taffy and Aka and Wally all piled into the bed with me. It took a while but finally everyone got settled and we all fell asleep for a nice nap. It was so nice that Wally decided to just sleep the night with us too. That was fine by me, but it was a struggle to stay in the bed.
I had never thought of Aka and Taffy as little but compared to Wally, they are. I know he isn’t that big but beside him, Aka looks very petite. I got some photos or tried to and when I get them uploaded, I’ll post them.
We also learned that three ratties in one lap is an amazing tangle of limbs, licking tongues and wagging nubbins!! Everyone wanted the center of the lap and kept changing around and butt pushing the other two. I just wound up laughing like an idiot and was no help at all. My mom who is visually impaired could only get a glimpse of what was going on but she got tickled too!
Finally I just shooed everyone off my lap and went and sat on the couch. Taffy my little mountain goat, promptly hopped on the couch, climbed up on my shoulders, placing a back paw on either side of my neck and resting her front paws on my head. That really got mom tickled, especially when she asked Taffy is she was playing queen of the mountain and Taffy used both front paws to tap my head. She was told to get off and she did but stayed on the couch as close as she could. I don’t think she was real happy to have two males around.
Wally really wanted to be friends but she would growl and move away. He is so mellow; he just let her move away and took it in stride. When he and Aka were romping around, she would get in her crate or up on a chair and just look at them like “ew boys! Make them stop!!” What a funny little monkey she is. Mom said that she sat in her lap all day today waiting for me to come home. Mom thinks Taffy was worried that I had run off with Wally!! LOL!
I got an email from Tanya tonight saying that after a very long drive, they were all home and Wally was doing very well. She promised to keep in touch! So Wally is home, I’m home with my Mom and two fur babies and all is well for the moment.
But…tomorrow is another day and who knows what adventures await?
Aloha,
