| I had a consultation, but they said they would have to cut my corneas and shape them, because they are too thin, instead of using the lazer, so I said no thank you.... |

| I had lasik done in 1996. I went to Canada (an hour from me) because at the time they had been doing them for years and here in the states it was very new. I am still 20/20 and very happy. |

| I had lasik done because I could no longer tolerate my contacts. I had very bad vision and a severe astigmatism. There is no pain during the surgery and it is VERY fast. So long as you take your drugs and go to sleep right away there is no pain after. By the next morning you can see and it does NOT hurt. If you don't take your drugs right away adn go to sleep (I did that cuz I wanted dinner first) then your eyes will burn and feel like you are in the worst sand storm of your life so if you do it take your drugs and go to sleep. |

I had to watch a video in the waiting room, then they had me look into this machine, I think they dialated my eyes first, took measurements, then I had to wait again, then they told me that I could only do the one that cuts, so I chickened out, cause I have heard bad stories about scarring later in life, and halo vision, where your vision is messed up at night, with a halo of light from oncoming cars while driving. It was a couple of years ago. I could not "see' myself keeping my eye open, while letting something cut my eyeball. They have a thing that keeps your eyelid open while it does it, I just did not want to do it. I would love to be able to take a shower, or go swimming with glasses or contacts, but did not want to take a chance of after effects.

I have 4 family members and a couple friends that have had it done and LOVE IT. I'm dying to get it done, I've just been too lazy to pursue it and come up with the money. I'm going to do it eventually. |

I had intra-lasik done about 6 years ago, when intra-lasik was still pretty new. I think it's all they do now, but regular lasic acually invovled a scapel cutting the eye, and intra-lasik was with a laser.
I just had my eyes checked lasy month, and I still have 20/20. Of all the things I could do, it enhanced my quality of life more than anything else I hav eever done. To be able to wake up and see the time on the alarm clock without fumbling for my glasses... to not have to mess with contact lenses... to just be able to see stuff anytime. It was significant for me.
I have talked to others who have not had as good an experience... side effects of halos around lights at night and things like that. |

I want to do this so badly! I plan to do it in the fall. My optomotrist says I am a good candidate. It is definitely not something you want to go with the special on (ie buy one eye get one free!) go to a qualified well recommended surgeon. I am a very active outdoorsy type - hiking, horsebackriding, etc. I think it will significantly change my life... I hear that they prescreen/prequalify people so well these days that less than 1% have negative experience. |

| My age may be an issue because I am only 20, which I guess makes sense because any eye problems i have may not have shown up yet. They have a lot of those "specials" around here and i went with one of the few who didn't, and probably the second to highest in price. I went with them because they do their surgeries on Fridays, everywhere else did it mid week. Id rather only have to miss one day of school than 2 or more. |

I had mine done when I was 26. My vision was always consistent though. I had the same prescription for glasses for the past 5 years, at least. A year and a half later (almost) and I love every minute of it. My reason for emptying my savings out was that I have blue eyes and I was sick of fighting the headaches. My glasses had sunglass clips, but they let too much light in. I would swap them for my oakleys every chance I got, and just relied on a good guess to avoid hitting the edge of the table, etc. I would not have done anything different. You just have to remember that when it feels like something is in your eye, don't rub it, and put drops in. I had the drops with me constantly. That's the only thing for me. Mine cost around $3000 |

I had the intralase procedure done in May of '07. Because of my age(40 something), I'm at the age when many folks who have the procedure to correct their nearsightedness, still end up needed to wear glasses for reading. It happens frequently and many get disappointed by that. (trading contacts for reading glasses) So, we opted for modified monovision which has one of my eyes just slightly less perfect than the other and he hoped that I would be able to hold off wearing reading glasses for a good while. I'm great! No glasses of any kind(except sunglasses and I can wear any kind I want)
The day of the procedure it is very important to be able to lay down and take a couple hour nap(in your special sleeping goggles) just as quick as possible. When the eye anesthesia wears off, you will want to scratch your eye balls out! Unfortunately, I live over an hours and a half away from my eye doctor. My daughter drove me home but I was absolutely miserable until I got home and took a nap. Then it was fine.
If I had the money to have it done in my 20's and the doctor felt that I was a candidate, I would definately go for it!
Here's where I had my procedure done. www.dreisner.com/
$2800 for both eyes. I was able to finance the procedure, I haven't missed a payment, but kinda wonder what they could do to "reposess" if I didn't pay up? lol |

| Well I just got back. The doc was kind iffy about even talking to me, aparently, they wont do it unless your 21. well i turn 21 next month, and he said the earliest he'll do it is the 25th of July, which I had to check with my mom to see if she could come down here then and she can so im going to call tomo and schedule it. He also doesn't recommend getting it before you have children, assuming that i will one day, my eyesight could change when im pregnant, but I talked to my mom and we're still going to go through with it. Even if I only get a few years out of it, it'll be worth it. I constantly get headaches too from the sun, & I never liked any of the "reasonably priced" prescription sunglasses. Do they give you a sleeping pill for after? |

| The doctor that I used gave me a prescription for 3 5mg Valium. I was told to get the script filled and bring it with me to my appt. I was told that they would tell me when to take the pill. I kept waiting and waiting and I was beginning to get a bit nervous, then they called me and did the procedure without giving me time to take the pill. It was over quickly and afterwards they said "Take your pill and go home and take a nap." I thought, this is crazy, the scary part is over with, why would I need to take the Valium now? So I just left and got in my car and we started home. We had not been on the road more than 15 minutes when my eyes began to itch and feel like someone had thrown sand in them. O MY GOSH!!!! I thought I was gonna reach up and claw them out, but you CANNOT mess with your eyes then because it's too fresh. I didn't have anything to drink, but I dry swallowed that valium and wished that I was home in my bed for the next hour and fifteen minutes. When I did get home, I went straight to bed and slept for 2 hours. I was MUCH relieved when I woke and the itching was gone. I did have a little bit of blood leak into the white of my eyes on both sides and that looked yucky for a bit. Oh yeah, no eye make up for 2 weeks and you have to put lots of different prescription drops in your eyes for several days too. Good luck with your procedure. I have faith that you will get your money's worth out of it. I certainly have. |

| In case my above post wasn't clear, the doctor gave me three 5mg Valium. I took one on the way home, one before I went to bed that night just because I wanted a good nights sleep and over a year later, I still have one. lol Guess I'm saving it for bad times. |

HA, back in MY day (hehe) it was 2200 PER eye. But that was 12 years ago. Kim, that's why I said in my post that you HAVE to take the drugs and go to sleep right away. I did the same thing - waited to take the pills - figured I'd wait and take them with dinner - BIG mistake. But had I listened it would have been fine. |

| I wish I could have lasik and get rid of my glasses, but I'm not a candidate. I just wear glasses for reading and computer use. I don't need them to drive or to walk around. I have blue eyes too and the sun really bothers me. I'm glad I've worn my sunglasses consistently over the years, because my mom's eye doctor said that will help prevent cataracts. |

Pam, have you been evaluated? There is a procedure that WILL correct what you have too. You just can't have Both procedures. You either correct the near sightedness or the far sightedness. You may be surprised to find out that you can have lasik too. Look at the site that I posted because I KNOW there is information on that site about both procedures. |
