So a little history on my job: The company I work for has 3 employees, me included and about 2 months ago we went through a big change because my boss had so many lawsuits and debts that he had to get rid of the company or he was going to lose it. (he has gambling issues and we "believe" a drug issue on top of that) Lots of threats and junk thrown around too... So now we are in a new office, new name, new everything. And my co-worker has agreed to put his name on everything to make it appear as though he is the boss... Messed up right? Half the days we spend with the blinds shut and doors locked because my boss is afraid of someone coming in, who?? I don't wanna know! Now what bothered me today.... this morning I came in, and my boss was not in yet, but my co-worker was and he found an envelope slipped under the door addressed to my boss while we were not there. He opened it. Read it. And it is another lawsuit for my boss... Oye. Now 2 things bother me here: 1. my boss is getting sued again which means back to hiding, late paychecks, no commission, secrets, talks of the company going under... and 2. that my co-worker even opened the letter! It was not addressed to him. Did not have the company name on it. And when I asked why he opened it he said "because it was left at our business location", I said "but your name wasn't on it" he says "well it was in one of those manilla envelopes with a clip, so it wasn't even sealed"... So now I have spent half the day debating, do I tell my boss he read his letter? Do I get mad at my boss for keeping this new issue a secret, because I know I'm going to deal with it sooner or later? Or do I just secretly be mad at both and just let it pass....? I think I'm letting it pass... But seriously, these are the kind of people I work with? Cmon, I need to quit

I couldn't handle the stress of working around all that. I would quit, new job or not.

Your situation sounds WAY too similar to mine. I don't really have any advice to give, I'm not sure what I should be doing either. If it were me, I probably would just stay out of it. I don't really blame your co-worker for looking. With his name on everything, he has a lot to lose if the business goes under, etc. Sounds like a stressful situation.

I could deal with my boss being a scumbag by paying me late and always "forgetting" to pay me my commissions, but once we started getting threats is when this job became a serious problem... I mean if I quit now we would have to move back in with our parents or something... I can't do that! He understands though how bad I've got it at work and is looking like crazy for work... it just seems to get worse everyday here, and just lately it has gotten to the point where Kevin decided to get his A+ cert and not finish school first, he says he can work full time and go to school full time, anything so I don't have to work here. He will finish school and get his dream job later. Until he gets that job though I'm getting pretty good at tuning out certain conversations so I cannot be a witness to anything and keeping myself nice and quiet over in my corner

Wow, I'd say you need to get out of there. But you already know that. I would just let it go though and not say anything. The less you "know" about the happenings, the better for you. Have you tried looking for another job? Then maybe Kevin can finish school before he has to work and go to school full time. (It's pretty tough, I've been there.) I wish you all the luck in the world and hope your angel is watching over you while being employed for that guy.

Might be hard to look for a job if all the employees are implicated in something illegal! Get out girl before the worst happens, and I aint talking about the law. Bad guys play for keeps and if your boss is into drugs bystanders could get hurt bad.

Yeah, I've been looking for another job... but we live right near a big college so jobs are pretty tough to find around here, and I have to carpool, so that makes it tougher. Plus, I've been working while Kevin went to school for the past 3 years, so he wants to step up and take over. He's sick of not working and I'm sick of being broke! With his A+ cert. he will be able to make more $$ than I could, so he is just going to get a job so that I can finish up my school and work on my graphic design career. He's almost done with school though, less than a year left and then he can work on finding his "Career" job. It's just we can't afford for both of us to go more than a week without a job right now, so I just have to play it cool And Brandy, thanks for the offer! I don't need much, just a nice dinner every now and then I like beads They are nicer than bosses!

He tries to keep me out of things, like he will call me in the morning and tell me to come in an hour late or so.. so that I don't overhear a conversation... He says its for my own protection in case I am ever called into court. I told him though that I will never lie. No matter what, I'm just not a person who can lie (can't play poker either) Also, I know people involved in drugs can get pretty scarey... I'm almost 90% sure he's hooked on coke. He has all the tells... But he's in and out, mostly out, of the office so often that doesn't bother me... It's mostly the thoughts of who he might owe $$ to or something like that. About a month ago his cousin was found dead in his apartment... drug overdose... although my boss thinks his bookie did him in... (boss told me this like it was a funny joke)... So yeah, I'm very scared of all that, but I just have to keep thinking its almost done... Just stick it out. I mean, it is kinda funny to see your boss run and hide in the closet when he sees a certain car pull in! I do feel safer since I am in a new office though, because no one but us and his wife know about this office... Not even his lawyers. So there is that little bit of security which is the only reason I am still here, even if we are in the same building... just on the opposite end.

But then how did that person find you guys to let you know about a new lawsuit? I'd be scared that someone still knows where you guys are... not trying to freak you out or anything.

Wow, thats pretty bad Kim. I couldn't stay there regardless of the situation. I would not want to be brought into the middle of anything that happens with that...which WILL happen eventually. I think I'd be sending out resumes left and right and have a job lined up so that I could quit and if I couldn't find out, I'd be working 2 part time jobs or moving in with my parents, haha. It doesn't really sound like you are putting up with a few things here and there....it sounds like a pretty "normal" thing for stuff like this to happen! Good luck whatever you decide to do!

I NEED a real home cooked meal like that... with veggies! Kevin does most of our cooking at home, but he only cooks about 3 diff. meals... so my weekly dinner routine (for the past 3 yrs.) is usually: M: Spaghetti T: Spaghetti leftover W: Tacos TH: Tacos leftover!!! F: Pizza Sat: Burgers on the grill with salad or take-out Sun: Some sort of chicken with potatos, or if we are having a big bill week... cereal!!! Seriously, that is not a joke either. When he gets a job if I ever see spaghetti, taco, or pizza, I may die. I like burgers though Can't get sick of those!

Kim...tell him they have meals in boxes now where all you have to do is add the chicken! haha I've tried a couple of them and they are actually pretty good. The Campbell's Chicken Selects or something? The only thing you need other than the meal is chicken breasts!
