OMG    I have been getting estimates on a new hot water heater and install..   one company quoted me the price in the header,  another quoted me $800.

My Dad told me to check Sears...   Growing up everything in the house was Kenmore...    so I did,  and got the water heater, install and 2 year service plan for $567.      Thats more like  it..   and using the Sears I got just as the hot water heater started leaking,   theres 0% finance charge for 12 months.

Home ownership on your own can be tough sometimes...

I hate stuff like that...I'm always leary about pricing, b/c if it's something I don't know much about I'm worried about getting taken advantage of...We were afraid we were going to have to get another air conditioner.  Thank goodness a friend recommended a friend-good recommendation.  The guy was great and we didn't need a new unit after all.

For that much that they quoted you they should pay you for having them put it in.

Quotes for this will be all over the place. You just have to compare apples to apples. Tank size, BTU's of output, cost to remove the old one, etc. etc.

Jan -- you need to buy a new 15,000 square foot home to put that new expensive hot water heater in! Check out Mary Beth and Pamwh's new houses!

Hubby replaced our hot water heater a couple of years ago. We got it at Home Depot for a couple hundred dollars.

Wow, Jan---sounds like you got the best deal, then.  My water heater had a 5-yr warranty, and 1 month before the warranty was up, it busted a seam at the top and leaked all over the water heater closet---there was a floor drain in there, so it didnt ruin anything.  Got the w/h replaced for free because of the warranty still being good, and a buddy of mine from the fire department I'm on is a HVAC man, so he installed it and took away the old one for $50.00.  Next time It will probably go out 1 month AFTER the warranty expires, you know?

Jan-Check with you Electric or Gas company (depending on if you purchased a gas water heater or electric) They should offer a rebate for a new water heater. Cha..ching!!!

When we had our first house, my mother, cityperson that she is, said something about finding the block superintendent if something went wrong. Boy was she surprised when she visited once and found me in the basement brandishing tools.

His name is Hendryx! He's a rat terrier! OK!
