This has to be the most bizzar thing that has ever happened to me. I am in shock and disbelief!!

So here is the short version of my story:

I had to go and buy groceries for our vacation trip next week. We leave Monday at 5AM to drive 12 hours to a cabin that we rented in the mountains. So we are taking lots of groceries with us so we don't have to ever get off the mountain. So I a unloading the car and putting into crates, ice chest and fridge and getting organized. Well my 3 year old Kasey is playing inside my car while I am in and out the house making many trips. He runs into the house and says he dropped his red car in mommies white car. So ask him to show me where it fell. He pointed to the steering column and I am thinking oh great, how the heck am I going to get it out of there now. So I tilt the steering up and nothing. So I back up my seat and get down low so I can pass my hands under the dash to see if it is open and maybe find his toy car. Well what do you think I find in that location???? Drugs!!!!

A small plastic bag with weed in it that is tied in a knot. I pulled it out and was just OMG OMG what the F**N heck is THIS!!!!

The bag is no longer clear, it is kind of stiff and yellowish color now. I don't know how to tell if this is old or new or whatever. I just didn't know what to do.

We leave Monday morning and drive three states and I find this in my car now!! Oh I am totally freaking out here. For the record, we do not do drugs but I have a 19 year old son that has before. I can't believe that he would use my car as a hiding place. Either that or I can't believe that has been in the car since we bought it in 2001. We bought it used/demo from a dealer ship.

Well we called the cops and are now waiting for them to show up with a dope dog. (dope? spelling LOL) And while we are at it we will have them search our home too.If it is our son we want to make sure that there is none in my house.

Turns out it was not too bad at all. I was expecting the third degree or worse!!! The police officer that my husband talked with on the phone actually made some phone calls before coming. He determined that a dog would not be needed because beings the drugs "were" in the car the dog would pick up on that and tell them what they already know at this point. He also said that the smell even though we don't smell it, a dog would smell it in the fabric. The weed did not smell anymore, but after he smashed it some then you could smell it. The bag was yellow but still has lots of strength to it. Goodness I feel like I am learning way to much here!!!

As for searching my home, mostly my son's room they would not do. Or should I say they could not do without my son's permission to allow them to search "his" room. It did not matter that this was our home, the fact that it involved his room they could not do it because my son was not here and they were not able to ask his permission. I totally do not get this part at all. Well my son has been MIA for two days so who knows when he will be back. This is a very common thing for him. Long long long story that you most definitely do not want to here.

Anyway, that police officer came alone and did a very detailed search of my car and my husband's truck and did not find any more drugs. Thank god!!

But he did say that what did come out of my car was old but not older than about 6 to 8 months. So without a doubt we are pretty sure my son did this.

I can't believe that he would put us at risk like this, not only the trouble we could get in but my husband would most definitely loose his job of this if caught.

But the police officer took it away, advised me to use lots of air freshener and air our my car really good over the next two days. He said we should be fine but in the event that the unfortunate would happen, we should have him called up so he can clear us. Or at least try.

Anyone want to buy a car cheap???? LOL

I feel like such a dork... LOL if that has been in my car for that long, goes to show you how much I know. I could have smelled it at one point and thought it was a dead rat or something. Never once did I ever think I smelled drugs.

Man I need to pay more attention to detail!!! shocked

It is a good thing we leave Monday for our vacation!!!! I sure feel like I could use one right about now!!! LOL

The police may not be able to search his room (how bizarre is that) but I would think you can. You do own it, right? He must have forgotten about the pot because I doubt anyone would intentionally leaveit there that long. Maybe he was stoned and couldn't remember where he hid it, LOL. don't let it ruin your vacation.

So, did you find Kasey's red car? It took a lot of guts to call the cops. I think I may have flushed it down the toilet. I mean you know where it came from. I am sorry you guys are having to go through this. What did Kasey think about the cops coming?

I am so sorry that you are going through all of this. I hope all of it works out for you and thank God you were the one to find it when you did.

I remember a case a few years ago where this guy buys an SUV from a police auction. He and the family head out on vacation and go to Mexico. Coming back while passing through customs, the dogs sniffed out drugs and the poor bastard gets locked up! Turns out the vehicle was owned by a drug dealer and it was seized as property when he guy was arrested. What a mess huh? Lucky you found it when you did.....

Yes very strange and weird situation. Talk about a surpirse!!! I was stunned at first but now I guess I should have expected it. It is just not something that I would have looked for in "my" car. But we are moving on now and looking forward to leaving Monday on our vacation.

Donna... Yes I did find Kasey's car after finding the drugs. And it was not guts that it took to call the cops, it was looking out for the safty of the family members of this family. Just because I have a 19 year old that is on a self destruct road does not mean that he can or has to take anyone else down with him. As long as he is not willing to help himself, it is up to us to look out for ourselves. If we were to get caught with drugs in our cars, my husband would loose his job and that would have a very bad negative effect on our family. I for one do not want to be living on the streets with a 3 year old. We did what we had to do and I do not feel bad about that at all. We have a very long and bad history with this son. I don't expect you to understand but just know that there comes a time when you have to do things that you don't nessassary like doing. We had no idea how old the drugs were, it took someone with experience to tell us. That is the only way we could know if it was our son or not. I have never seen drugs in my home before.

And Kasey did not think anything of the cops because I had enough sence to have his nanny take him shopping and get some ice cream while this was going on.

If my son decides to come home before we leave for our vacation, I will share this story with him. If not, well I guess we will when we get back.

We are changing the way we do things, we have not been on vacation in years and after having nothing but problems and issues with my 19 year old for the past 5 years, it is just time for a change. He is not willing to do anything and lives in a fantacy world. I don't expect you to understand, shoot, even the professionals that deal with him still don't understand why he is the way he is. So it is not just us that has a hard time dealing with him.

But anyway, after all these years, my husband and Kasey and I are leaving town for a week. And in July we are doing it again. We are just getting older by the day sitting around worrying about what he will do next. Well no more!! At 19 it is time he starts to do for himself. Sorry if you or anyone else does not agree.

If you want, tell me to take a hick, I don't care!!! LOL See, I have gotten really good at this tough love stuff!!! LOL Ok so that may not be funny to most but it sure maked me feel better.

Well I guess I will check in just a few more times and I will be "out of here" for a while!! Take care!

Just so you know, I think you did the right thing.  Sometimes you come to a point where you do what you have to do, not what you want to do.  You have yourselves and little Kasey to deal with.  Your other son is old enough to deal with the choices he makes.  That certainly doesn't mean you don't love him or want him to make better choices, but you can't do it for him!

I hate to say it but when my sister was on drugs we had to kick her out of the house and she actually ended up going to jail for six months and that probably saved her life well I know it did.  And now she is married and has two beautiful kids and is her normal self the self I grew up with.

Well we are not quite there yet. We kicked him out before. He came back and was arrested a few weeks later. He spend almost 3 months in jail. He is out now but has several court dates coming up in July. Two days after he was out of jail he has continued to disappear for several days just as before. We don't know where he goes or have anyway of contacting him. He is very secretive and has flat out told us that he will never admit to anything unless he is caught red handed.

Oh Donna, so sorry this situation with your older son seems to not be improving, but I sure think you did the right thing calling the cops tonight. Just glad that nothing else was found. I hope you guys have an awesome vacation. The Smokey Mountains are wonderful.....my parents used to own a cabin there and I have some great memories of time spent there..... I hope it is some great family time for you. Take care!

Donna,
So sorry you had to go through all of that!   I may have missed some updates on your son, it seemed like the last I'd read he was doing pretty well. I'm so glad you and the rest of the family can get away on your vacation... you sure deserve one! I think using the "tough love" approach is the right way to go with Tyler...  and the best way to keep your family as sane (as you can) while going through this!  I sure hope that some day Tyler will really *get it* and bless his wonderful Mom & Dad that have done so much for him..... with no more worries!

I would alert the local police to keep an eye on your home while you are away. Just incase your son may decide to come home and get into mischief.

Have a great vacation, you need it. I would also suggest letting the police know that you are leaving your 19 yo troubled kid with access to your home. Also alert the neighbors to watch and be sure you lock up anything really important. If your boy decides, since you are gone, to have his stoner friends over you might find some things develop legs.

We had a mini vacation up at the rat terrier jamboree, in a one room cabin. It is great to get away, so try to relax once you get there. Take lots of pictures, the fist day, and the last day, just enjoy the in between. I guess it is a a little hard to understand, since my son Josh, passed away, and the others did not get into drugs. I do know about tough love. Take care. Have fun.

Donna what state do you live in? Here in Texas since your sonis over 18, he is considered a tenent of your estate. Had he been under 18 all they would have to have is your permission to search his room. Every state has their own rules and laws, some are crazy and some are just out of this world.

BUt to find drugs under the dash of my car, that would send me over the top. My child would have a new sense of respect, if you know what I mean.

Did you find the little car for Kasey though? just wondering.

Well my son showed up this morning "still stoned". Great huh? Well we had a long talk and he is now on crystal meth and part of gangs. So without question, this is the last straw. We are kicking him out today without a doubt. We have a no durg policy in my home. We will not tolerate drugs and gangs. This has now reached the point that will effect the rest of this family. We just can't do this. I will not live like this with a 19 year old coming and going stoned/high and never knowing what kind of people are coming around our home. Next thing I guess he will be stealing things to sell for drugs. This is the end of the road for us.

That vacation will be welcomed with open arms. I plan on taking tons of pictures. I will share a few when I get back.

Oh and yes I was able to find Kasey's little car and no we are not taking Molly. She is not a car dog and we are driving 12 hours. So we will wait until she gets older. My daughter his house sitting and will take care of her.

Donna I am so sorry for what you are going through with your son. For the record I would like to think I would have kicked him out long before the Meth and gangs. He is setting a REALLY bad example for his little brother. I just don't understand what makes some people do these things. Enjoy your time away! Can't wait to see pictures!

I know this is just breaking your heart to see him destroying himself like this. Believe me, I've been there with my oldest son and my stepson. Thank God they are over that now, but many people don't get over it. Does your daughter feel comfortable calling the cops on her brother if he comes to your house stoned or high and with his gang friends?

Enjoy your vacation. Y'all deserve a nice relaxing trip and a lot of fun.
