Well, Jan, just by carbon offsets from your personally owned company, thus increasing your stock value and I'm sure there'll be no problem.

You know, Tracey, I've been thinking about that very thing.  Then I can live in a great big house, fly all over the country, increase my wealth by using the enviroment and make everyone else feel guilty about burning fossil fuel.  Yep.  Sounds like a plan!

It's $2.79 here too. Last week I needed to get gas and it was $2.59 in the morning on my way to work, but I was running late. When I stopped to get gas after work, it was $2.69 a gallon! I just buy small amounts because I know as soon as I fill up my tank, the price will go down.

Last time I got gas it was 3.09 but that was 2 weeks ago. But I will have to get gas later this week because me and Lucy have to go back to Woodinville. Seems the lady at apple sold me some speakers that I just don't need and they only have a two week return policy. Usually if I don't make many visits one I can go a month on one tank of gas. Plus I drive an 11 year old jeep that eats gas.

Gas Prices really don't make any sense right now.  Especially when the gas companies had the LARGEST profit margin in 15 years this last quarter!!!  It makes me so mad - but I am just one - nothing I can do about it.  It keeps getting like this - people need to protest and start riding bikes - have one day where EVERY AMERICAN walks or rides a bike - of course this wouldn't happen in this day and age but it would(and believe it did) have in my parent's generation.

I agreee it is crazy! Prices here are $3.11 @gal. and going up. I wanted to buy a hybrid electric, but my hubbie didn't think it was practicle? If I could ride a bus or a bike to school I would, but it is 40 miles one way! We intend to do solar panels as soon as the budget can afford it, but with the price of gas I keep having to pay the electric company instead! I am tired of the amount of profit the oils companies are allowed to make off people who can't afford this sort of thing!

This is what I do not understand.....
How do George or Dick have anything to do with the gas prices going up?
It was my understanding that most if not all the gas produced in this country comes from imported oil & not domestic. That oil price is fixed by OPEC, and the last I knew neither George or Dick or any other US Politicians from any party sit on the board of OPEC! I know everything under the sun has been blamed on George, but I really see no fault on his part here.

I think there is plenty of "blame" to go around... I'm just not smart enough to divvy it out in the right places! One thing I do know is that is sure hasn't stopped many people from going where they want to go. In many households here, each person who can drive has his/her own car. People don't carpool anymore. Americans are spoiled and if the gas goes up to $5.00 a gallon... people will still take vacations and go where they want to go. Same way with eating out... people complain about the prices of going out to eat, but does it stop them? Not often...

George and Dick both have ties to American oil companies.  Both have sat on their boards, owned stock, etc.  Their campaign was supported by these companies and their executives/owners.  I know they resigned once they were elected, but both have friends and family still at the oil companies.  OPEC sets their prices for the crude oil, but the American oil companies set their own prices and you know they are making a huge profit.

I know it is a hard and thankless job to be president.  But I don't think George is that bright and I don't think he has done that great of a job.  Remember, I suffered through 5 years of him being Governor of Texas and he didn't do a very good job then either.

Not to grt political but our president has a soultion....Drill more wells and build more refineries??????? This in the face of continued profits for oil compinies. When Bill Gates started making this kind of money he was taken to court, something about building a monoply?

Ha, When I first started reading this didn't notice it was from last year. I wish I could find it for 2.79 now. It's 3.58 here, and that's cheaper than the neighboring towns.

Hah! When I replied to this tonight, I didn't realize it was from a year ago either. I just put "gas" in the search box (figured someone would probably be talking about it), and I didn't pay any attention to the date of the last post.

Here in Michigan it's 3.95 for regular. A month ago it was 3.55. Here's the wierd thing. It's 3.55 in orlando where the fiancee lives, and it was 3.55 a month ago as well. So why did it go up in metro detroit and not in orlando? Because metro detroit does nto have a mass transit system for people to flock to. We have no choice but to buy gas, no matter what the price. If I wanted to take the bus, I'd have to be at the stop by 4am just to get there by 8. Orlando has lynx. Prices go up, people just take the bus. The reason we don't have a transit system is that the transit authority is afraid people won't buy cars anymore if they have a bus or train to ride, and being the "motor city" we just couldn't have that. It came up a while back when detroit was talking about why our tourism sucks.

Gosh, $2.79 is a steal compared to us here in Arizona $3.38 a gallon......highway robbery....and to think those poor oil companies are making record profits....ticks me off beyond belief!  All I can say is thanks BUSH!
