I have a lab/chow X and am having some issues. He is about 45 lbs and not scared of anything. But when it comes to kittens and puppies he acts like they are going to eat him or something. He rarely growls at them and never hurts them. It is sometimes hilarious that this big dog is scared of something that weighs less than a minute. I have no fear of him hurting one of the puppies I was just wondering if any of you with larger dogs has gone through this...Cooter likes bigger dogs and cats, the adult cats sleep with him...he just won't tolerate the smaller ones. He is only 4 years old and has been around smaller animals all of his life...Any ideas any one?

Thanks

I don't know what to tell you LOL! My bigger girl (60 lbs.) isn't like that. We did however, a few years ago, had a Rottweiller (180 lbs) and though he had no canine siblings, once in a while he would sneak into the neighbors yard and her chihuahuas would chase him out. He'd come hauling butt through the yard like a bear was after him LOL!!!!

At the dog park Charlie my little tiny 8 pound rattie bullys all the bigger dogs! Its so funny to see. He really likes to chase the boxers around for some reason. He is the Alpha there for the most part.

Our Lab Reggie is a 100# fellow...gets along fine with big dogs, but little ones scare him. Now think getting Abby has helped him a lot! She actually curls up next to him for his body heat! He is my Hubby's retired Service Dog and Dave had problems with him when they went near little dogs!! UGH! Bad Reggie!

We share our home with a dumped 90# mutt mutt dog. He is a gentel as they come. However when it comes to babies (of any kind) he is out of here. It's like hes scared of them. Well as usual when we brought Noodles home Brother (big dog) stayed away as much as possible. Noodles was having nothin to do with that. You know ratties EVERYONE has to ba a part of their life and love them. Under very close supervision I would let Noodles work her magic, crawl on her tummy to Brother and turn over and use those sad little eyes to tell her new brother please lick me/love me. Took till she was 4 months old but Brother caved in and they are BEST friends. Sorry I went on and on. What i observered with their interactions was it seemed like more than anything Brother was afraid he would hurt the little dog. High step when she was around and get up and move far away when she laid next to him. with this hindsite I can say this is usually the way he acts when introduced to any baby.
I don't maybe just wishful thinking.

There is no joy greater than being owned by a Rattie!!
