| I talked to her last night on email and she said she had alarms on the tv going off about the fires. She said it was smokey there. |

hey guys, I'm here! And freaking out!! Yes, the fires are very close. I've packed up I think 1/2 my house... I'm so scared! I took Mic out this morning and saw a bunch of neighbors packing their cars. So far though, I am ok, the fires aren't close enough for us to evacuate. But it is so smokey here, I have all the windows closed and it is so hot. i can't even go outside, it hurts my throat. But, no ash yet... So I haven't gone into complete panic mode!
my boss called this morning and said to stay home, but my sister and Kevin had to go in so I'm here at home all by myself with Mic and no car. Kevin has to go around to the evacuation centers and set up their computer systems, so i am so scared for him to be out there... He might be working through the night... My hands are actually shaking! I have to keep up with the news, and if the fires get near a couple points, I have to call my sister and she's rushing home to get us... But to go where! I guess I'll start looking at hotels, I don't know!! Plus I don't know what else to pack up and put by the door... dog kennel! doh! forgot that!!
I can't do this again, I hate fires! We are literally surrounded here by them, so I just don't know where we would go I got an email from dogparkdawn this morning, she's about 10 min. from me, she's ok, but at work... So hopefully we will keep each other in touch with any news. Does anyone watn to lend me a boat??

Kim!!!! I was just getting ready to post that I see Fox News reporting that San Diego county is issuing MASSIVE evacuations to Quallcom (sp?) Park, and that the fires are 0% contained
Please, please stay safe!!! Is there no one else that can come and get you ???? |

ok, quallcom is about 5 minutes from me... that's good right? they wouldn't set-up an evac center in a danger area right? I just wish I wasn't alone... I'm going stir crazy! They declared San Diego in a state of emergency. Everything is closed, I don't see why my sister had to go in to work!
So, if I disapear that means I lost power, a ton of people already have and they are saying more definitely will, I might really panick then! But my cell phone is charging... Or, if you hear anything about Miramar, Santee, El Cajon, or the 52 (highway) that means I'm getting the he** outta here. If you here La Mesa, I'm already gone! I told my sister if she's not here by that time, she'll have to look for me running down the road!

so, I don't know what you guys have seen on the news, but the closest fire to me is in rancho bernardo. It's a fairly large city, like lots of houses, schools, businesses... It's 24 miles north from me. That's the one I'm watching the closest... but its just freaky because they keep showing a map of the fires, and I am literally surrounded on all sides except one.. the ocean side!
I wish there was someplace else to find this news! I'm just checking signonsandiego.com and watching local stations! All they keep showing is people who were evacuated, pics of earlier this morning... how about what its doing now!
Sarah, I'll keep an eye out for that chopper! Cookies will be warm right out of the oven! |

OMG I just saw this! Haven't watched the news lately. Kim - don't panic but stay safe. Gosh, I HATE fires....and the ash, etc. Just don't take any chances and keep Mic with you so if you have to leave you're together. I'd HATE being alone without a car in that situation.

Red Cross Operating Multiple Shelters for Wildfire Evacuees
(San Diego County) - American Red Cross shelter locations (new in bold):
Escondido High School, 1535 North Broadway (Thomas Brothers Map Page 1109, H-6)
Santana High School, 9915 Magnolia Avenue, Santee (Thomas Brothers Map Page 1231, E-4).
Mira Mesa High School, 10510 Reagan Road (off Mira Mesa Boulevard). The Poway High School shelter is CLOSED.
Steele Canyon High School, 12440 Campo Road, Spring Valley (Thomas Brothers Map Page 1272, B-7)
Campo Community Center, 976 Sheridan Road, Campo
There are approximately 1,500 people in all Red Cross shelters as of 2:30 a.m. Additional evacuees continue to arrive.
These facilities will remain open as long as there is a need. Residents will be provided a safe place to stay, drinks and meals, and basic health services at these locations. Additional shelters are being opened and operated by municipal and partner organizations. Residents in the potential path of fire should monitor local media for the latest information about services, or call 211 San Diego.
Residents with large animals are instructed to take them to the Lakeside Rodeo Grounds, located at Highway 67 and Mapleview Street, OR the San Diego County Fairgrounds in Del Mar. Residents are urged to place their household pets in carriers or crates plus supplies such as food and leashes if they are brought to Red Cross shelters. Bring all necessary daily medications, supplies for your children, and any other critically needed items for the next 24 to 72 hours with you to the shelter.
The Red Cross advises all residents to heed any evacuation orders immediately. For the latest information, please return to the American Red Cross website at www.sdarc.org under the "Current News" section on the home page. It will be updated as new information becomes available.
ALL individuals who are evacuating or have been evacuated are encouraged to register themselves on the Safe and Well website at www.safeandwell.org. If they are not able to register, they may call 1 866 GET INFO and a call agent will assist them with registering themselves on the website.
For additional information about resources, please call 211 San Diego. Dial 211, or 1-858-300-1211. |

ok, so the Santee evac center is to the north of me about 5 min away, and Quallcom is about 5 mins... so that's got to be good right?? They wouldn't have people go somewhere they thought was a risk.... right?
That's so funny, move back to ohio! I was on the phone with my grandma this morning, who is in ohio, and she kept saying "why are you still living out there??" I told her I wanna go back home!!
ok, gotta go take the Micster out, I think I'm going to put a towel over my face That won't look to funny!! Although, there's no one around, so I doubt anyone will see me... I think everyone is inside watching the news! |

I hope I just heard this guy on tv wrong, he's giving an update, and someone asked him where he thinks this fire (the one 24 miles north of me...) is going to end up later today. He said he is about 90% sure it will be in Chula Vista. Now Chula Vista is 15 min. SOUTH of me. I so have better heard him wrong!!! Going to check, please be wrong!!
oh geez, think I'm jumpy, my sisters fish tank just turned on and I about jumped right off the couch! |
