I thought it would be a good idea to re-post this thread about what software we use for graphics and tips and tutorials that we like.  I believe it was JRT Rattie Mom who started this idea on the old forum, so I hope its ok that I'm bringing it back!

So everybody post what Software you use, and maybe why you like it, is it expensive... things like that.  Also what sites you like to go to for tutorials, and maybe any kind of tips you might have!  Maybe we could sticky this if it turns out to be helpful

I use and love Photoshop CS2... soon to be upgraded to CS3.  This program is expensive though, but will allow you to do things that you wouldn't believe, basically, if you can imagine it... you can create it!  It is also a little more difficult to learn than other programs, but there are a TON of tutorials and help out there because it is a very popular program.

I also use Irfanview.  http://www.irfanview.com/   This is a free image viewer that allows you to view most image formats and you can also do many other things with it.  Like quickly crop, resize, convert files into other formats, etc... It's a great little program that I always keep around because it takes up pretty much no memory, so when you need to resize a picture, and you don't feel like waiting for your memory hog graphics program to open, this comes in handy!  Plus, this program is very user friendly... You really don't need to know much about graphics to do the basics... I mean, to resize a photo you can just click "double" or "half".  I have this program set as my default image viewer

Tutorial sites for Photoshop:

http://www.lunacore.com/photoshop/tutorials/tutorials.shtml - not a very active site, but very friendly forum and great tutorials

http://www.rnel.net/ - Tons of tutorials here

http://www.tutorialized.com/tutorials/Photoshop/1 - Tons of tutorials, plus they offer tutorials for other programs

One tip I can offer is GOOGLE!!! If you want to find a specific tutorial.... ex. pet red/blue eye correction... just go to google and put in your program + pet eye.... ex. photoshop + pet eye, and you will find a ton of tutorials for your specific program.

I use a program called BIMP Lite to do batch resizing for photos to post to my web page. It will also embed text into the image.

It is free and easy to use for reducing lots of photos to a webpage, or forum, size.

I also have Photoshop 7.

I use Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite 2006 for my graphics and love it.  It does everything and is not expensive and is user friendly.  In fact, I've told several friends about it and they use it now too.  For resizing, I use the Picture Manager program that comes with Office.  Very easy and it's right there in your Office stuff.  I don't think some people realize they even have it.

For pet eye removal (demon eyes) I have posted this link before.  A good tutorial.

Thanks for re-posting this Kim! Maybe Jan can pin it this the top of the forum if it starts to get "buried" again! I hadn't collected all the posts from the old board... so they were lost  I remember that Nora had a list of different software she uses... so hopefully Nora (and anyone else that had posted) will add them again.

I bought the Microsoft Digital Imaging Suite 2006 after Jan was saying how much she loved it.. and found it at a local computer store for $19.95. I was telling my sister about it, and she wanted me to pick one for her a few weeks later, but when I went back they were regular price... and the name was minus the "2006" so they must have been closing out the 2006 version when I bought mine. Even at full price (I think it was $39.95 at CompUSA) it is WELL worth the money.. I LOVE this software!

I had put together a nice list of other software that is free to download online, as well as websites with tutorials... but need to find my list again... and will come back to add them later!

Thanks for the tutorial website addresses, those will help me. I mainly use Photoshop Elements 3.0. I have Photoshop CS but have not really learned how to use it. Elements is not very expensive like photoshop CS and above.

Besides Photoshop I use Paint Shop Pro and Ulead PhotoImpact. When it comes to playing around with different text styles and 3d effects, PhotoImpact lets you some amazing stuff! Check it out at ulead.com

ARG!!! I downloaded Photobie, which is a free spinoff of photoshop.  I want to learn to crop, layer, and do all that fun stuff.  Those tutorials on the photobie forum are pretty hard to follow.  Anyone wanna give me a few good pointers?

It's so simple and easy, opening CS3 is such a pain!

yep! It's free You can download it from their site http://www.irfanview.com/  But its not a graphics program, its an image viewer... I mean you can do some things like cropping, changing images to b&w... but I mostly use it to do quick things like resize images and convert extentions.

I have HP photosmart Premiere (I think it came with my camera or printer or something...but I have figured out that if I click on the red eye reducer, it takes care of most of the blue in Max's eyes.

I know this is an old post but I am pretty new and  I see too that it gets viewed quite often.  So.. Thought I would toss in my two cents.

I use Corel Graphic Suite X3 - so I use Corel PhotoPaint and CorelDraw a lot

I also use Photoshop and Illustrator CS2

My neat tip would have to be Gadwin (www.gadwin.com) .. it is a little program (free download) that allows you to frame and copy/paste anything on your screen.  You just hit "printscreen" and it gives you a tool to window whatever you want to copy.  Then just paste into your photo program.  Its a big help for me.. hope you can use it too.

Thats it
