Bandit used to get a small sore down on his foot once a year or so. Problem is, that he gnaws it and licks it. As vet has said, initial licking cleans the wound but constant can actually moisten the surrounding skin so much it gets raw and infected. I noticed Bandit licking his front left leg (just under the elbow) a couple of days ago. He is always grooming himself so didn't pay much attention. Then yesterday, I noticed the sore, about the size of a pea. I cleaned it and bandaged it up and looked this morning and decided better have the vet take a look. Considering that this area Smokey always goes for it could very well be a tooth puncture. The vet said I will never break Smokey of this so to check Bandit's legs after play and if a mark to clean it right away with antiseptic. When they are out in the yard Smokey is full steam ahead. Funny thing is that when Dexter was alive it was Bandit who harassed Dexter. When Bandit gets tired of it, he lays down and when Smokey comes at him he slams his big paw on him and holds him down. Maybe I can get a clip of that. They really do get along great and usually sleeping together. It's just so funny watching this little dynamo chasing this big guy all over. Our neighbors laugh like hell watching it. |
