Can someone tell me how to cook "partially cooked" rice? I have a casserole that I bake in the oven that calls for raw rice OR partially cooked rice. I have made it a few times with the raw rice and I don't like the way it cooks so I want to try it with the partially cooked rice. Only problem is I do not know how to make partially cooked rice. I use a rice pot to cook my rice and have never cooked rice on the stove.

maybe just cook it like the directions say on the bag of rice, and then in the middle of the cooking time (around 10 min.) just pour any the excess water... and Done! partially cooked rice Actually come to think of it, by the 1/2 way point all that water might be absorbed by the rice... so you might just turn off the heat and scoop into your dish?

Hmmm, this is very interesting! If you ever experiment and figure it out, lemme know I make casseroles every so often and the rice is always undone... I never thought to partially cook! (duh!)

Thanks, I think that is what I will have to do... "experiment"!! LOL And yes that is why I am trying to do this because my rice is always undone in the middle or around the edges depending on which one I do. Drives me nuts!!

I will let you know if I come up with something.

Hey Donna....I would say cook your rice half the time the package says to cook it....all depends on what type of rice you are using....long grain brown, short grain white, basmati or whatever..... Good Luck! If it is a noteworthy recipe....pass it along! :-)

Thanks for all the help. I plan to by me a new bag this weekend and give this a try. My problem is that I buy rice, pour it into my rice container and toss the bag so I never have the bag for directions, nor did I know that the bag even had directions on it. LOL I will let you know how this turns out.

Donna if I make caseroles, I usually put in instant rice. It seems to work better than regular long-grained rice because its not gooey or chewy in the middle parts of the casserole. Just a thought.

Maggie, I have never used instant rice but that would probably be easier so I will look into that. Thank You!

Rule of thumb Donna, Rice is always 1 cup rice to 2 cups water, bring to a boil, turn to low cover and simmer for 20 min.  I would do this but stop it at 10 min then put it in the casserole.

Maybe I need one of those rice cookers like you have Donna. I LOVE rice but HATE cooking it, I can never get it right!
