| Good question. My son wouldn't eat vegis unless I made homemade vegetable beef stew so that the vegetables tasted like the meat. If they are into sweet things, I changed my kids from sugar to Splenda. Anything that calls for sugar you can replace it with splenda, made from sugar so tastes like sugar, mine never knew the difference. The bag even says measures cup for cup like sugar. Good luck on the recipe search. |

| let's see, I have lots of recipes, but not sure how much is kid friendly. What kind of foods and stuff do they like. I make a great sweet potatoe caserole that I use only splenda in and it comes out great. I'll try and hunt some things down. |

| That would be great Maggie! They both love sweet potatoe. They like chicken, hamburger, but don't like veggies, so it would great to make something where they are hidden if you know what I mean? I hope Josh doesn't see these posts!!! LOL |

| Do they like cheese? My hubby is like a child in that he won't eat veggies without cheese. (Except for green beans and corn) I put metled cheese over brocoli and squash for him, and he just scarfs it down. Will they eat regular potatoes? You can take coliflower and blend it in the blender and make it smooth and put it mashed potatoes. Also when you cook spagetti, you can chop onion and mushrooms up in a blender or food processor so tiny that when you brown the meat with the stuff, you can't even notice it. You have to really make sure the onion isn't crunchy at all when your cooking it, b/c some picky eaters will notice the crunch and freak out that you're trying to one over on them. You can do onion this way in any ground hamburger recipe. Chili, hamburger helper, spagetti, anything really. I have several other tips on stuff because I pull them over on my hubby. His mom LET him be picky when he was growing up, and she catered to him. I told him, you eat it or starve, which is how I was rasied. I wasn't allowed to eat other stuff besides what was made at meals, or specified snack time. I grew up pretty poor, so we didn't have money to just be eating all the time, or eat food that might be ment for a meal. Tell me more about what your kids will and will not eat.... |

Here is a good one. i hope your kids like quiche. My mom always go tme to eat it when I was younger because it looked like pie. I was very easily tricked as a kid....lol But it is still a good recipe. You can cut it in half if you would like and do only one pie, but these are easy to freeze and take one out later. I modify it a little and sometimes put a bit more cheese for my veggie skiddish boyfriend, and you can substitute the spices to your family's taste. INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon vegetable oil 1 onion, diced 2 teaspoons garlic, minced 2 (10 ounce) packages frozen chopped spinach, thawed 1/2 cup shredded carrots ( you can used chopped if you would rather) 1 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese NOTE: you can use 2 cups of the Cheddar Jack shredded cheese you can by in the packet if that makes it easier: 6 eggs 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes 1/2 teaspoon salt 1/2 teaspoon pepper 2 (9 inch) pie crusts DIRECTIONS -Preheat oven to 350 degrees F -Heat the oil in a skillet over medium heat, and cook the onion until tender. Mix in the garlic, spinach, and carrots, and cook until the spinach liquid has evaporated. Remove skillet from heat, and mix in cheese and eggs. Season with red pepper, salt, and pepper. Pour 1/2 the mixture into each pie shell. -Bake 30 minutes in the preheated oven, until a toothpick inserted in the center of a quiche comes out clean. |

Wow! You gave me some great ideas! Put it this way, my kids won't eat any veggies, only carrots, meats are pretty good, mostly chicken. They like eggs, cheese, all fruits, cream cheese, peanut butter, potatoes....can't think of anything else just yet.
I grew up the same way you did, and now I find myself catering to my kids like you said. Now I really want to fix that problem, even when the whinning gets rough! LOL Any ideas are GREATLY appreciated!!! |

There are two recipes and I KNOW you kids will like one of them. The first one is:
Twinkie cake
One box twinkies (you can use low fat ones if you think it really helps after you add all this other stuff)
One 15 oz can crushed pineapple
One container cool whip (again fat free if you wish)
One box of vanilla pudding prepared (or if you just want to open containers you can buy the 6 pack of the prepared stuff and use them)
One can opener
One spoon
In a clear bowl (for presentation purposes) break half the twinkies into bite size pieces and layer them in the bottom of the bowl
Now place half of the drained pineapple (could also use fruit cocktail) on top
Now place half the pudding on top of the pineapple
Now place half of the cool whip on top of the pudding....you get the drift...continue to layer ending with the cool whip on top. |

the second one has broccoli but it's good:
In a pan melt one stick of butter and 2-3 cloves of chopped garlic (depending on taste). cook on low heat until butter is melted and garlic is soft. Whisk in 3/4 cup half and half and put on low heat.
In another pan steam a head of broccoli, make one package of rigatoni noodles.
When the broccoli and noodles are both done mix them together with the butter/half and half sauce and one package (2 cups) of mozzerella cheese and serve.
If they won't eat broccoli in this , they wont eat it!

| I don't know if your interested but that cookbook out by Jessica Seinfeld (Jerry Seinfelds wife) called Deceptively Delicious is a cookbook where she makes food for her kids that has the good stuff mixed in the recipes. She was on Oprah and some of the stuff looked really good. Maybe you could put that on your list for Santa?? |

Cheesy Spinach
Drain 2 cans of chopped spinach, saute in a non-stick skillet. Add 1 small jar of cheese whiz in whichever flavor you like. Warm thoroughly till cheese is creamy and its all mixed well.
Sounds gross, I know! Just try it! If you dont like it, your out like $3.00
When I cook green beans (any style, frozen or canned) I always add 1 beef bullion cube per can, and a can of water and boil on high for a good 10 minutes, then let them simmer till the rest of my meal is done cooking... makes them taste yummy!
When you make tacos, add a can of drained pinto beans to the meat mixture.
I was brought up like some others here, what Momma cooked is what we ate, no matter what. We were very poor and there were no other options. Needless to say, we learned to like veggies and at them at every meal! |

Google is your friend. This of a veggie you would liek to use, google that+recipe... and you will get all kinds of new ideas...even if you change them to suit them to you.... which I do a lot.
Here are some of my favorite websites... just browse them, and see if there is anything you like. My favorite is living on a dime, I even get the newsletter, b/c I am always open to new ideas on how to save money!

I add seasonal veggies to this basic sauce all of the time. That is a good way to sneak veggies in for your kids. I chop carrots, yellow squash, zucchini squash, red yellow, or green bell peppers, spinach, whatever is in season or on sale. Just chop it fine and the kid probably won't even notice it. I would saute it in with the ground beef... Let me know how it goes, or if you like it... 1 lb. ground beef 1 medium yellow onion 1 bell pepper fresh garlic (to taste, but I use a lot because it makes a big pot) sliced mushrooms carrots chopped 16oz tomato sauce 1 can diced tomatoes 1 small can tomato paste 1/2 cup ketchup salt to taste Italian seasoning to taste Saute beef, onions, carrots, and bell pepper. Once beef is browned, drain and add garlic, salt and Italian seasoning. Saute until well blended. Add remaining ingredients and simmer for at least 30 minutes. Note the longer you simmer, the better the sauce. Also, the sauce is always better the next day, so it is great for left overs. I will make a big pot like this and use it to make spaghetti, lasagna, and pizzas. It is very versatile. |
