I've loved all of her Scarpetta books...until the last couple. Cornwell's writing has changed, and the stories just seem weird (not a good weird)...just disjointed, not something that grabs me, etc. The characters just seem to bitter and beaten down and tired. Plus, she changed from 3rd person narrative to 1st person, and it is just awkward to me. I think things started going downhill with Predator. And I've tried reading her latest, Book of the Dead, and just *can't* get into it, no matter how hard I try. I read lots of bad reviews on Amazon saying the same thing.

This makes me so sad, because I've always loved her books. The first several were gripping...I'd read one in a week, couldn't put it down. *sigh* I think she's lost her mojo.

I agree with you! I used to read her books all the time, and just fell out of them. They just got weird for me too. I need some more ideas on new books to read. Right now I am reading Dean Koontz's Darkest Evening of the Year...or something like that...lol can't remember the exact title, it's upstairs and I'm too lazy to go confirm!

If you like Patricia Cornwell, you'll love Kathy Reichs! They are very similar in style and nature, but Reichs actually is a forensic anthropologist, so the detail you get is wonderful. Now, I don't like the show (Bones) based on her books. I think they've Hollywood-ed it up and dumbed down the main character. But the books are great.

Also, Kate White's books are good. She's the editor of Cosmo magazine, but she also authors mystery novels. They are fun!

I guess we have the same taste in reading I've read most of Kathy Reichs novels too, and Bones is one of my favorite shows, I know what you mean about them Hollywooding it up, but I must say that David Boreanaz is handsome! ha-ha
Thanks, I'll have to check out Kate White then!
BTW, one rattie (red & white) in your avatar could surely pass as my Phoenix's brother/sister!! I can't believe the resemblance Phoenix did come from a breeder in Phoenix, AZ, so you just never know

I'm a die hard Scarpetta fan, but I agree that the writing has changed.  It's not as organized as it was in the past (?), and some of the plot lines have been so predictable.  I love Kathy Reichs, too.  I think I'll look for a Kate White.  Are there any of hers that stand out?

I also love James Patterson.  His co-authors are also pretty good.  I just finished 7th Heaven.  It had a little bit of gore which I didn't really care for, but it's a good read.  I wish Women's Murder Club would come back, too.

Sue Grafton's ABC books are good, too! More detective work/mystery and less forensics.

Does Phoenix have really long legs? Cissy does, and so we were thinking maybe she was mixed with something, like Whippet or Italian Greyhound. I have no idea, since she came from the pound. I'll look for more Phoenix pics in the gallery! I need to post Cissy pics.

Phoenix has shorter legs, so I guess he is type B rattie. Maybe Cissy is type A, some do have longer legs than others I think....
I'd love to see more Cissy pics

I need to upload them and resize them when I get home!

I'm currently reading Kathy Reichs' "Break No Bones" and I'm enjoying it. I didn't realize she'd written two more books since the last one I read, so I'm trying to catch up.
