     Well, my dear, tomorrow is election day.  It seems as if we just hit the campaign trail a few days ago.  It has been an exhilarating campaign.  I am confident that I am up to the challenge of being President of Rattieland.  I am equally confident of your abilities to be an accomplished First Lady of Rattieland and Lady Dunmore the Duchess of Albemarle.  I have noticed that a young upstart candidate by the name of Eddie Ratbone been offering the fair ladies of Rattieland jewels in return for their support.  Please keep in mind, my dear, that I do hold a royal title and with that title comes royal position and royal jewels.

You are a little gem! At such a tender age you are showing great courage to "run with the big dogs" in such an important election. I need that sort of spunk in my cabinet. Please, it would be a honor if you would consider joining me in running Rattieland as a cabinet member and, more importantly, saving a dance for me at the inauguration ball. To show my gratitude I would love to see you wear my great grandmother's favorite piece - the pearl choker. As a young girl it made her feel so grown up!  (The earrings make a nice dollar accessory for daytime)

My family were successful planters before that awful war and all that is left of my heritage and fortune is a few baubles. Now is the time to open the chest and release their beauty. I believe you will find their quality "presidental" indeed. 

I am hurt that you doubt me but flattered that you were so kind to me before you knew of my legacy. I just want one night where I can see my grandmother's, my momma's, and my Aunt Hilde's jewels glowing in the festivities and adorning the slender necks of beautiful females. Perhaps that is too much to ask so if I have offended you in any way, I apologize. I truly thought you would look lovely in the emerald and diamond neckless. It's the most magnificent piece in the collection and I picked it our especially for you (but don't tell the others).

My Dearest Marley,

I am sorry that I just now saw your note to me.  Yes, I too was offered jewels and a proposal to be First Lady by Mr. Eddie Ratbone.  I was momentarily overwhelmed by what I thought was true affection, then I saw the above post and see that I am just one of many.  

My dearest Marley, please forgive my momentary lapse in judgment.  I am just a nervous wreck over this election.  Marley, do you think we might have a future regardless of the outcome of the election?  I do not mean to appear forward, and I certainly am not desperate for affection, but I have grown very fond of you through this campaign, and  Lady Katie Scarlett, Duchess of Albermale  has such a nice sound to it.  Don’t misunderstand me, dear Marley, I would love you regardless of your title.

I have created a terrible misunderstanding. Only you, my lovely Katie Scarlet, did I ask to be my First Lady. The others, though delightful and charming, are not "the one". I offered them posts in my cabinet and I would be delighted if they accept. Please reread my earlier posts to dispell any misunderstanding, I would do nothing to offend such a beautiful creature as yourself.

I have not forgotten you. I was carefully selecting a beautiful piece for each of you to wear to the ball when I waylayed by the response of Katie Scarlet. I hope that you two lovely canines will accept my offer in the kind vein in which it is intended. You have campaigned hard to run for President and I feel you deserve a cabinet seat if not hte Presidencey. As such I would like to offer a seat in my cabinet if  you are comfortable with me as a candidate. 

Enough of the ugly aspects of politics. I am looking forward to the ball and hope that you will both honor me with a dance. I hope to have dance with all the (female) candidates so that we can move beyond this ugly race and start buildiing friendships and unity of purpose. I can assure everyone that the Clinton photo to which you refer was an true endorsement of Marley.  It happens to be from when Marley successfully campaigned for Mayor of Rattieville.  That was Marley's first venture into politics.  He was an outstanding Mayor whose terms in office were free of political scandal or intrigue.  I can personally attest to Marley's honesty and moral character.  He is an honest and hard working rattie who desires to improve conditions for all ratties.

Dear fellow ratties,

  Many thanks for the support and kind words. Eddie Ratbone, I would absolutely love to have a dance with you at the ball, and the pearl pieces you showed me were just delightful! I noticed that I recieved some criticism because I stated that cats and dogs are equals. Yes, we all have our opinions. Not all cats are mean and inconsiderate. Actually, some dogs, as well as cats, can be rude. Anywho, I know that I have entered the election late in the game, but I have all the qualities you need for a sincere president. I am aware of the fact that I'm a young soul, but as I said before- it doesn't take a mature or brainy rattie to be president. I will take care of problems like fleas on fellow ratties and food shortages for the unfortunate families of ratties. As you can see, I'm running a clean race. I shall not ridicule another rattie running in the election for my benefit. I'm trying to benefit the Rat Terrier nation. My running mates are my friends, and shall not betray them. I want ratties to vote for me because they understand that I'll run our nation in a fair and glorious way, not because I rip past the competetion in a cowardly way. Please, my friends, vote for me. I will not let you down. I am your good, southern girl who will always love and protect my nation.  If you have any questions for me, feel free to ask.

Dear Little Miss Annabelle,

You are an absolutely precious puppy. And, as a southern belle in training, you must know that precious is just about the highest compliment one can pay!  . (You remind me of me as a puppy.  Why, no wonder I think you are precious!)  When I was a puppy, my Mama was always telling me that my day would come and I do believe she was right!  It is sometimes hard to be a puppy, except of course everyone adores your little puppy belly and puppy breath.  I am very sure you will grow into a beautiful Rattie.  Welcome to the site and I hope none of us made you feel badly – a lot of us just have a problem with cats!

Noodles here.  You sure are a cute pup!  Don't worry you'll grow up, I remember when i was your age I never thought I'd be grown-up!  Welcome to the rattie site, although I don't know why they (are moms & dads call it that we hardly ever get to talk), you'll like it here.

I get to talk to Miss Katie Scarlett and Nora sometimes.  But if you talk to Nora don't talk about boys, her Mommie don't like it cause some boy hurt when she was little.

I like cats, my bestest friend (besides mommie and daddy) are cats.  They are fun to play with and they share their food sometimes.  It's alot better than my normal food.

Please don't be too hard on your cute self as we all have our intolerances. Mine are chihuahuas. 

I am so looking forward to dancing with a beautiful lady draped in grandmohter's pearls. It will bring back memories of when she and my mother taught me to dance as a young pup. They would dress up in their finest, move the furniture from the living room, and force us pups to dance (although we groaned we did enjoy it)  If I do not win this election then I am not sure if I will be invited to the ball by the winner; however, I will dance in my heart and mind with all the lovely ladies involved in the Rattieland election. You have all retained your special feminimity despite a brutal election process.
