Well yesterday, I had to take Mom to her eye doctor in Pinehurst, NC. Pinehurst is the site of more championships than any other golf course in the country. The most recent being the 2005 US Open. Golf has been played here since 1898.

For those of you who are into golf, you probably have heard of Pinehurst and the old number 2 course which was the site of the 2005 US Open. The entire village of Pinehurst is golf oriented but in addition there is horse sports, tennis and lots of other activities I don't know exactly how many golf courses there are in the area but it seems to be milions!!

While Mom was having her eye exam, Jeff and I headed off to see the Carolina Hotel and Spa, The Carolina has been there for over 100 years welcoming families and golfer and golf enthusiasts to enjoy its grace and hospitality.

Jeff had a great time. The first thing Jeff saw as we drove up the road was the Carolina. Jeff had to stop and get his photo taken. We had to put him up on the car to get the best shots we could.

Then we headed to the hotel and Jeff got mistaken for the Travelocity Gnome!! We introduced him and the staff thought it was a riot so we were able to get a pass to go to a lot of neat places.

1 and 2. Jeff in front of the Carolina

3. Meeting the front desk staff of the Carolina

After meeting the desk staff, we went to one of the local shops in the hotel to check out the merchandize.

1. Jeff saw so much cute stuff and he convinced me to get a set of the little putter boy (can't remember the word of what they are) things that you can add to your clogs.

2. Here is Jeff in the pinestraw in front of one of many logo signs of Pinehurst. In 1912, Lucy Richards presents her bronze sculpture, Sundial Boy, to Pinehurst.  The statue is later moved to the putting green and renamed The Putter Boy.  This statue serves as the Pinehurst icon to this day.

3. Here is a pic of the original statue.

From there, we headed over to the club house and were invited to sit out on the veranda that overlooks the Croquet Lawns.

There were some older gentleman in their whites playing.

The large white building with columns is the clubhouse

Today, Aka had an appt. for grooming at the Barking Lot so Jeff went with us to drop him off.

1. Jeff got to meet Ms. Denise the owner of the Barking Lot. Pictured with her and Jeff is Tiffany, one of the workers at the Barking Lot.

2. Jeff really liked the large lighted photos of clients along the back wall. The flash washed his face out abit.

3. Jeff thought this one looked much better although still a little washed out.

1 Jeff had a great time relaxing in one of the indoor rocking chairs where the skin moms and dads can wait for their fur babies. He wanted to tell Morgan to look carefully on the wall, there is a Carolina Puppy blanket!!

2. Then we spotted the other wall and there was a lot more UNC things, also some State and Duke. Jeff was a little dissapointed that there were no Wake Forest items.

3. They were having a birthday party for Brady, one of the day care pups and Aka got a piece of doggy cake,, a goody box and a card. Jeff posed with the goodies for Aka since Aka wanted to eat the goodie box rather than the animal crackers inside it!!

While Aka was getting groomed, Jeff and I headed over to White Lake, another Carolina Bay lake. This one is the one that I swam in as a child. It has changed so much. Way over crowded and developed.

1. Jeff in front of the White Lake sign.

2. The first stop was the NC FFA center.

3. The historic marker that explains about the camp.

1. This is the off season so of course the camp is closed. Jeff enjoyed looking at the rows of cabins.

2. As we left the camp, we saw something on the road. as we got closer we saw what it was. vultures

3. We got fairly close before they left. There were about 5 more circling overhead.

1. Jeff saw several for sale signs, so we stopped to see how much a little place at the lake would cost. This one was going for 699,000.00!

2. Jeff decided not to check this one out! But he liked the color.

3, A swimming beach at Camp Clearwater, the largest family campground at the lake.

The day was overcast but Jeff did his best to look good in the photos of the water. He decided not to go to the waters edge. But he did like the lone tree growing on the edge of the swimming area.

OH, they have LOTS of Carolina stuff! I love it! I've made many trips to White Lake also! Actually spent some time at the FFA center too. Haven't been since I was in High School though.

It has been so fun seeing where everyone is from and learning about their home areas. Elizabethtown, NC is a very small town in a very rural part of southeastern NC so I wasn't sure what to post.

Jeff has one more adventure here and then he will be heading off probably on MOnday!!

Where is the list for Jeff, I wonder when he will be here in Cleveland?/  I love watching him travel, he has led quite the life!! I am jealous of a gnome

I'm thrilled to see that Jeff made it to Maine. I have always wanted to visit Maine and when I was in 4th grade, I had a dream that we moved to Maine!

Poor Vinnie, I love the "touching me" photo!! I know you will have lots of fun with Jeff.
