Now, the guy said if the head looked like it does in this picture (he was pressing down) -- sort of a triangular shape, that is when you have to worry. I always knew that it was the triangular head to watch for, but I couldn't see the head.
BTW, it is a Corn Snake, which they say looks similar to the Copperhead, except for the head. They also say these snakes will vibrate their tail and strike quickly, imitating a Rattler.
I almost had heart failure. But, we got him in time -- he didn't get the eggs. |

The guy was taking him home. Said he'd turn him loose -- the other guy is his next door neighbor, I looked over at him and said, "better keep the hoe close by"!

| Yeah...I just read the field guide description...no way would I get close enough to see the head and neck that clearly! Where I grew up we had a lot of copperheads so the fear of them is well engrained! |

We do have Copperheads and Rattlers around here -- and of course, in Ga. where I grew up, too. So, yep, I watch out for those!
P.S. And now you see why I don't want to put Boo Boo out there. |

Just came back in from taking Aka on a potty break and realized the computer was still on. AACCKKK glad I saw this AFTER he and I went out in the dark back yard. I worked at a 4-H Education Center for several years and our sister camp was the environmental ed camp, we were arts. I had to travel to a conference with the Environmental Ed Center director and spend the night with her sharing a hotel room. What I didn't know was she had brought Sir Hiss, the center's 'pet' corn snake!! He was in an old aquarium with a mesh top but he could push the top whenever he wanted to. I found the Gideon Bible and put it on the top to hold it down and then was awake almost the whole night praying that Sir Hiss would respect that bible and stay in his cage!!! shivering at the memory of it all. Glad you were able to save your bird eggs and that your corn snake has a new home far away!! I too am not fond of snakes even though I respect their place in the life chain. At our Ed centers we had copperheads and rattlers and spent every spring going through cabins and under cabins to make sure we had none wintering there waking up in time for the kids to arrive. Well, sleep may no longer be an option!! LOL |

| Ah, Cheryl, maybe this had somethng to do with my lack of sleep last night. I am very careful when i go through our yard and woods. I have a pile of sticks and leaves to burn and as I transfer them to our burn pit, I promise I'll be poking around in them first. I alway am very careful if I pick up a rock. I don't mind snakes, except this time of year when they eat my baby birds, unless they are poison snakes -- those need to go to their little Snake Heaven. |

| OMG I hate snakes! Bailey & Buster were playing with a HUGE snake skin in the yard a few days ago and I have no clue where it came from. My only concern is WHERE is the snake that skin belongs to??? Horrible thoughts... |

WOW! In my mind's eye, that's 28 two-inch segments of snake after the weed whacker did it's thing.

Wow! I'm not a big fan of snakes... I don't like them, but I don't hate them. My husband is another story. He is scared of them. I'm glad you're okay!! |
