My outside dog, Curly, (a cocker-poodle mix) is an outside dog by choice.  He HATES being indoors, so he stays outside all year round, with a Dogloo doghouse, and the works.  He has baby-fine LONG hair, and all winter long, he rubs up against the side of the house, his dog house, the fence, anything and everything, and ends up being one huge MAT---well, one huge SMELLY MAT, actually---by the time summer comes along.  I have to wait until the days and nights are warm enough to have him clipped close, and today was the day!  That groomer was a miracle worker, let me tell ya!  He even smelled like baby powder when I went to pick him up!  Awwwww

1. BEFORE----doesn't he look pathetic????

2. & 3. AFTER---look at that smile!

He's 8 or 9, Nora....cant quite remember.  We 'rescued' him when he was just a little puppy.  We were at an outdoor flea market, and this couple had just bought him.  They were walking down through the vendors and they all of a sudden started having a fight--a real battle--about the puppy. He didn't want it, She did--that sort of thing. So the girl literally THREW the pup down on the ground, said "FINE!" and they huffed off---leaving him wandering around alone.  He wandered out onto the 4-lane highway nearby, and someone grabbed him and turned him in to the security policewoman.  She was going to lock him up in the storage shed on the premisis till the next day when Animal Control could come and pick him up. Well---neither of us was about to let that happen!  So we brought him home in hopes of finding him a good home somewhere.  He just sort of worked his way into our hearts, and he's still here.  (I'm such a pushover sometimes!)

Thanks for telling the story of how you rescued him Paul  .  I remembered the story but I didn't know how old he was. Are you sure that the groomer gave you the same dog?

WTH are people thinking sometimes???? First: throwing a puppy on the ground and leaving it. SEcond - locking him in a storage shed overnight??? Man, so glad you were there and took him. And you're not a pushover - you're kind, there's a big difference

What a difference! I used to have a dog that looked just like yours. But she never got a makeover. She's been gone about 15 years now.

AWWW Curly is such a cutie.. I even think he is adorable with his matty, nappy hair!  Hush, my outdoor dog would never allow such as that to happen to her. Shes old, ornery and set in her ways. HMMMM... kind of like me...

I thought I was looking at a picture of Sampson for a minute!! That is exactly what he looks like right now! A big matted pile of doggy fur!! (his nerves are so bad and he shakes violently when he is groomed that I put it off as long as possible) I am going to shave him in the next few weeks...but he won't be as cute as curly...ermm..I mean slick.....He will be a pitiful pile of bones, another reason I put off shaving him.

I'm too claustophobic to live in a bubble!!!!!

Paul, our shih tzu was the same way. He HATED being inside! When we'd bring him in, he would run to every door that went out and would whine until we took him back to the yard. Every spring, he'd look like Curly/Slick--matted like you wouldn't believe one day and look like a different dog the next. That is the main reason we didn't get another shih tzu. John didn't want to deal with the hair although I swore I'd keep him cut and he would be an inside dog.
