Here is what Mike and I got my step-dad for Fathers Day! AWindmill Palmtree...will reach a max height of 20ft.

My mom and step-dad were trying to decide on a new tree for their yard.  My step-dad wanted a palm tree but my mom told him he couldn't have one...so I'm getting him one as a gift, haha.    I decided to still pass it by her...she's not thrilled, but I talked her into it.  I told her it was slow growing, but she doesn't know it can get up to 20ft tall.

I know this is probably the last thing he is expecting to get because he thinks he's not allowed to have one....so I was trying to think of small things I can give him leading up to the actual palm tree.  **Any ideas???**

I was going to get one of those teeny tiny plants that look like palm trees that are to sit on your desk to be funny.  I thought about Corona, but he doesn't like Corona.

HOw about a plastic pink flamingo? they make me think of palm trees.

A real coconut. they come from palms.

A box of dates, also from palms or at least it makes me think they do you know the date palm tree?

a blow up palm tree from Oriental trading company, they have all sorts of crazy things.

a vial of sand, as in palms growing in a desert oasis (okay I'm stretching here)

A fake certificate for a palm reading (hey give me a break it's after 1 am

lots of items with a palm tree motif

or how about http://www.amazon.com/Bealls-Palm-Tree-Party-Lights/dp/B0006OEWPY

it's probably too late, but you could order some items made from palm leaves such as mats, hats, etc. they do that kind of stuff at some of the tourist shops in Hawaii.

How about riteaid? Do you have one near by? All of their summer luau stuff is on sale right now! They have tropical decor, pretty potted flowers, palm tree candle holders, super cool monkey statues, a tiki bar, matching tiki god wall hangings that double as decorative stepping stones(I bought 3!) tiki torces and citronella oil.... And a bizillion other goodies. Sounds like you're going to hand deliver this gift. How about packing a luau in your car? I packed one in mine and the kids and Shiloh and hubby and showed up at my dad's house last year and decorated his porch. Packed a fruit salad, a baked ham and tater salad, paper plates & fruit juice, a bag of plastic leis and a new straw hat for dad with a floral ribbon and a Don Ho cd! He was so surprised! We had a blast!

Ok, I just left Michael's Craft store and got a few odds and ends to give him before the palm tree. I didn't want to spend a TON of money because the palm tree cost alot more than what I was expecting to spend.

I got a small table-top tiki torch, a big sea shell, a lei, and a koozie, haha. I'm also going to get one of those real small desktop palm trees like I mentioned earlier.

I'm sooooo excited! My step-dad is like a little kid. I sent him a text message yesterday that said that Mike and I got him the "coolest father's day present ever' and he replied back that he wasn't surprised. I was talking to my mom today and she said that when he got that text message he came up to her with a big grin on his face and read her the message and asked if she knew what I got him.

I know he is going to be tickled pink...

I think I'm going to give him the stuff I listed above and then give him the miniature palm tree, haha. Then I'll be nice and give him the BIG palm tree.

We are going to have to borrow Mike's mom's pick-up truck.  Mike drives a jeep and it won't fit in that either.  It's pretty big!  He lives an hour away from us, so I hope it makes it that far without getting messed up.  I'm going to wrap it up real good.

Use an old sheet or blanket to wrap it in, have Mike hold it all in his hands securely and kind of wrap the whole thing from pot to tip and lay it down if possible in the back of the truck. The worst thing you can do for a baby tree is to let it whip around in the wind when it's that young. Also, water water water... that poor baby is going to be thirsty!

Yeah, I watered it really good yesterday. Let it soak all the way through. I think it will be okay.
