| They sure do bloom, in shades of white, pink and lavender. But the real show stoppera are the beautiful leaves! Anyone else have a slug problem with hostas? I finally gave up on them where we lived before because they were expensive and wouldn't last due to slugs and snails but where I am now we don't have slugs, snails or fleas! WOO HOO! (We make up for it in deer ticks though... bleck!) |

| Ladyfern... I have LOADS of hostas, several varieties, and I love them. (I love anything that is low maintenance). I didn't buy any of mine... they were given to me by a friend when she thinned hers out. I've already thinned mine out several times and planted them in various other locations. They prefer shady areas... |

Yes, they are beautiful and I may try again here in Weed, Ca. we have cold winters and dry summers but shade dwellers do really well here if you can keep the deer out of them... |

Ladyfern, The deer are our problem with Hostas also! Since we fenced in the back yard those are doing fine. I expect though to see a deer in the backyard anyday! I can just imagine them jumping the fence! |

| I kind of think they just step over. We have fences... doesn't even slow them down and Shiloh isn't alot of help, she's inside asleep at my feet at that point! |

Well Aka isn't any help right now. He is still intimidated by the birds in the yard!! Of course there are starlings, mockingbirds (who intimidate me and I feed the brats!) and a few others. We also have a huge hawk and his mate that nest in the woods out behind our house so I keep an eye out when Aka is outside. 4 pounds would be nothing for the hawks to grab! I missed getting photos of our hostas when they bloomed. I think all of ours are white. Take care!! |
