but does anyone else remember when Woolworth's and some drug stores had coffee shops or lunch counters in them?  Here's a menu from the 1950's.  Looks like prices have increased at least 10 times what they used to be.

I remember a Woolworths Five and Dime from when I was very, very little...vague memories. There was a little soda fountain. And I distinctly remember in the restroom you had to put a dime in a "thingy" on the stall door for it to open!!! Little kids would just crawl under

I remember when Sears and Penney's had fabric departments where you could buy patterns and fabrics to make your own clothes. Anyone still sew their own clothing?

I remember Woolworths, with a lunch counter when I was young, probably in the late 60's early 70's.

I do!  My favorite memories of my grandmother's house, was going to her drugstore and getting a milkshake at the soda fountain.  I usually wasn't given enough money for a sandwich...in fact...i think i just said charge it....i really don't ever remember paying for anything.  People would just say, you must be Kenneth's daughter....and i would say charge it to my Daddy.  Wish I could do that now!

We had a store downtown in Lewiston where I grew up. I think it was called McCrory's. It was sort of like a department store but it had a little diner off to the side. My Memere used to take me their. Ooooo.....I just loved it!

Oh I surely do remember Woolworth's lunch counters and restaurants. I loved to eat there -- and they had great banana splits!

I love making my own clothes. my mom taught me to use a sewing machine and I live making things from vintage Vogue patterns. Plus it's great to have one of a kind clothes.

How cool to have a menu. I sewed like crazy. And I'm dumb enough to purchase a vintage Betsy Johnson pattern on ebay for $20 when I had one way back that cost $2.50.

Dang, I just ordered a chicken salad sandwich on rye with tomato, lettuce and onion and it was $5.50!!  A glass of unsweetened iced tea and a bag of chips brought the total to almost 10 bucks!

Talk about a flashback.  I remember going to the Woolworth's and eating at the lunch counter.  What was it about the lunch counter that made the food taste better?  We also had 3 stores in town that had soda fountains.  Anyone remember cherry, vanilla, or chocolate phosphates?  We also used to get Coke with a shot of cherry, vanilla, or chocolate.  Many fond memories of sipping those fountain treats through a paper straw.

We had a Woolworth's within walking distance from my home on the east side of St Paul. Cherry Cokes remembered the most. Little did I know how much fun that was until the idea was obsolete. It made sense....would't you buy more if you could get a milkshake after you shopped? Yummm!!!

Yes, I remember Woolworth & Co. dimestores & their snack fountains well. Ate lunch in them many a time up until I was around 13 or so, anyway. Also at the same period were the Kresge dimestores. Woolco and K-mart (the earliest mega discount centers) is what they morphed into. Then came Globe Discount Centers, Gibson's, and Target. Finally the monster we know today, Wal-Mart blotted what was once Woolworth and most all the rest of them out of existence.

The stores like Dollar General and Dollar Tree remind me of the old dime stores.
