I was just curious...if my rattie weighs 8.8 pounds at almost 8 months, how big do you think she will get and is she considered a mini or a toy?  She has long, thin legs and just as long of a body!  She has this tiny little head too.  I included a picture.  Someone asked me the other day how big she will get and I truly don't know.

At 8 months they are usually full grown, but may fill out a little more as she matures...but probably won't get over 10 lbs. So your pup is a Toy rattie.

If you know how much she weighed when she was younger, here's a growth chart...it was pretty accurate for figuring out my ratties adult size.

formula for determining adult size from puppy size:

weight @ 6 weeks times 4 or 5 = adult weight

weight @ 8 weeks times 3 = adult weight

weight @ 16 weeks times 2 = adult weight

We got her at a little over 3 months and I think she was about 6 pounds...so 10-12 lbs would be right.  Our vet thought she would get to 15 lbs., but as time has gone on, I have doubted that.  How are toy ratties bred?  Maybe a better question: why are there so many different sizes?  If I sound like an idiot, I apologize...I don't have much history on Oreo, I adopted her from a shelter.  I just find it fascinating that so many Ratties are so different from each other. I think that's why I like the breed so much, each one is unique.

this is part of dogster.com's Rat Terrier breed description, I thought it was interesting. It's really condensed down a lot, but shows how the 2 different body types were developed and why, which I never knew. Type A's were for speed and agility and Type B's were for tracking...

Rat Terrier History:
Rat Terriers originated in America as a cross between Fox Terriers and a long list of European Terriers that includes Manchester Terriers and Bull Terriers. To stop a rabbit epidemic that threatened crops in 1910, farmers increased the speed and agility of these dogs by crossing them with Whippets, Italian Greyhounds and Smooth Fox Terriers. Meanwhile, in other parts of the country, hunters crossed the early Rat Terriers with Beagles to improve their tracking abilities. While common in the 1920s and 1930s, the modernization of farming created less of a demand for Rat Terriers. Today, Rat Terrier clubs grapple with the true lineage of the modern breed. But, most of them agree that the Rat Terrier’s diverse gene pool is what allows them to remain a healthy, adaptable and intelligent breed.
