Hoss will be 12 in August.  The fur on his feet have turned white, but his eyes still speak to me.  This little guy... my very first "little" dog.  Just thinking today that golly gee whiz... he's getting old.  Makes me sad, although "knock on wood".. he's in good health.  I know many of you also have pets who are becoming elderly... many of you have lost pets... it's something we all share... (just feeling sentimental about this little guy today.)

How much do I love thee? Let me count the ways:
Will I love you when you puddle for nineteen continuous days on that
Gorgeous Indian blanket that my friends have all admired?
Will I love you when I find you on my pillow when you're tired?

Will I love your muddy paw prints when you chase a butterfly
From the garden through the kitchen when the floor wax isn't dry?
Will I love you when you're shedding and all day I vacuum hair?
When in digging you demolish ten begonias raised with care?

Will I love you just past midnight when I let you out and then
I let you in...then let you out.... then let you in again?
Will I love you when you're lunching on a twenty dollar shoe?
(True you didn't touch the other, but I sorta needed two).

Will I love you as I pay the vet for binding that nasty little gash
You got while decorating the lawn with all our trash?
Will I love you when you're sandy, dripping water from the beach
As I chase you 'cross the carpet and you stay just out of reach?

At these times let me remember how cute you look today
And sigh and tell myself - I love you anyway

Well, goodness, you made me all teary-eyed!!!! Such a beautiful poem for a beautiful dog. He has "sweet" eyes, but I get a sense of the "ornery" as well

Tracey -- To my knowledge, if there's a doxie on the face of this earth who isn't "ornery"... I sure haven't met him! (or her!) haha
Yes indeed... he's ornery, but that just adds to his personality. LOL

My first thought is OMG Nora is thinking..and yet there are no pigs flying by my window! But how could you not love that face. He dosen't look that old! And yes I do understand. I have a 24 year old cat that refuses to stay off the kitchen counters or to use a litter box.

There is no joy greater than being owned by a Rattie!!

hahaha - Cat !!!  Yes... believe it or not it happens from time to time.  I try not to let it get me down, though! LOL

A 24-year old cat?  Isn't that some kind of record?  Wow....

Aw. It's so hard to watch them age, knowing their time is coming to a close. Hugs to Hoss.
