I just talked to Jan a little while ago, before I lost her cause her cell phone battery died. She and the other 20-30 people were rescued by boat, and taken out to interstate 31, where she called co-worker, who came and got her and Sassy, and took them back to his house. They are giving her dry clothes, a shower, and vegetable soup. She said she swam through a lot of nasty stuff in her basement trying to get to the stairs to get out. She went under twice, and took some water into her lungs. She thinks she has a cracked rib, and something knocked her in the head, so she has a lump on her head. She recently had a tetanis shot, when she got hurt at work. She is going to go stay with her son as soon as she can, in another town. She left her truck on dry land with water all around it in the cemetary parking lot. She is bracing herself for what she will find, once she can get back into her house. I just pray she does not get pneumonia now. |

Yes, Sassy is ok. Jan said when she got out of the basement she thought Sassy had drowned. She came flying through the doggie door, and they got out. She said she must have swam out of the hole in the basement, where the water was coming in. Jan had her cell phone, and id, and bank card, in a fanny pack, so they would not get wet, and a light coat with other stuff, in her pockets. She lost her glasses, and bluetooth headset while swimming out. She has another pair of glasses in her locker at work if she can get there to get them. She said she is blind without them.

Thanks for the update on Jan and Sassy! Gosh, what a mess! I feel so bad for her.....it is amazing how quickly flood waters can move in and engulf homes and neighborhoods. Sure hope she is ok and her insurance gets things settled for her...... Surely will keep her in thought and prayer. Lynn |

OH NO!!!! I had no idea she had such a rough time of it, although I did hear that a dam broke somewhere in her area and that flood waters were terrible there. Oh, I hope she is ok. Thanks for the news, Donna, I'm glad to know that she got out and has a place to stay with food and dry warm clothes----and Sassy. Some of the people here that were evac'd couldnt take their pets with them. I know that I would never leave my dogs behind, they would have to knock me out and drag me away if it came to that. I'm so glad that she got to keep Sassy with her. |

Well, here's the latest: Donna H called here and said that she was at work, so she couldnt post to the site, but wanted me to relay this message:
Jan had text messaged her and said that one whole corner of her house foundation is ruined, and the people in charge (FEMA? I dont know) wont allow her to go back into her house to even get any of her belongings. Wow---she sure is going through a rough time. Keep praying for her. |

Yeah, FEMA has to go through and check all homes and mark them with this nice orange paint, so that other organizations know whether a home is safe to go into, or if it is condemned. It took about a week - two weeks, before we knew whether or not we could go into our home to try and salvage anything. They condemned our home, but said it was ok to go in if we had the proper safety gear on. (gloves, face masks, ect.) The water around here stayed up for quite a while though, so maybe if the water has already subsided, she'll be able to get in quicker than we did.
She is in my thoughts and prayers, she has a long hard road ahead of her.
