I'm not quite sure how many pictures the "source" button will allow me to add to one post, so I will just post a separate response for each section of our little Savannah excursion.
The first night, we didn't do anything but I did go over to the Oglethorpe Mall and basically just walked all around it.
The second day, (Friday) we got up early and were the first ones to the Market Square for our horse drawn tour of historic down town Savannah. The tour guide's name was Jackie and she assured us that she was the BEST tour guide in Savannah, so we hopped in and when she was ready to leave, we were the only passengers. We basically got a private tour. Though we did have to put up with some pretty corny jokes, I did learn a great deal about Savannah history. The thing that sticks out the most is that the city of Savannah has paved over hundreds and hundreds of graves from the old cemetaries to make way for roads, for this very very busy city. These are photos from our morning tour.

This is the coffee shop that Julia Morris saw her husband with another woman "Let's Give 'em Something to Talk About"
This building was built as a stable for horses. Nice digs for a barn, huh?
Beautiful streets
There are 26 squares in Old Savannah. Beautiful parks everywhere.
Riverstreet to follow. |

Savannah's RiverStreet is famous. If you go to Savannah, you must "do" Riverstreet. lol It can get pretty "wild" at night or especially on St Pat's day, but early in the morning it's not too bad. We hit a few shops and walked along the RiverWalk. Took Pictures of course.
The stones on Riverstreet have been there for a LONG time. My understanding is that they are quite valuable and you have to have papers of some type to have one of these stones in your possession. So don't be digging up no rocks in the Savannah streets!
It's very common to see street musicians. We sat and listened to this one for a while so that Ricky could rest.

Lovely! And not very crowded?
Mitch, we stopped on the North end of the island around 10:30am, we were there about 1 hour. The parking lot was filling fast as we left. We drove down to the south end of the island and it was so crowded, we didn't even get out of the car. I was "ret to go" bout then. Don't like crowded beaches. I like to go early in the morning or late in the evening.

I loved your pictures, Kim ! My cousin lives in Tybee Island, and we have visited them, and we also took a tour of Savannah and ate on the riverfront. It was awesome. Tybee Island was a bit "swampy" though... and there are no yards! Here's a picture of the Cockspur Lighthouse I took... built in 1837. We saw the dolphins .. it was awesome! Enjoy your stay there - lots of history to enjoy! |

Oh My Gosh! Yogi's Mom! If I'd known that there was a RT.com member in Savannah we could have arranged a mini meet up! Dang! Lost opportunity. I did see the tiny little "Tybee Island Dog Park" and I saw lots of folks walking their dogs around Tybee, but didn't see any Rat terriers. Back in Savannah, I did see someone walking a dog that I'm SURE was a rat Terrier, but he had larger black spots on his body so I don't thing it was you and Yogi. lol. I didn't even look at the walker, just the dog! I sure missed Amos while I was gone and saw a lot of places that I would have loved to walk with him in Savannah. Next time, you and I will have to get together, k?

| Nora, that is a great picture. I did see that light house(I think) off in the distance, while I was driving. Couldn't stop and take a picture though. The next time you visit your cousin, we need to make arrangements for a South GA Rattie meet up. I bet MB wouldn't mind coming up, Yogi's Mom too. That would be great! |
