I'm gonna enjoy my new dehydrator... and hope to save some money ...
The sweet potatoes came out great and my dogs love them! Plus...they are chewy enough that the dogs have to chew them and can't swallow them whole! LOL
I have another batch dehydrating today.
Thanks, Maureen -- for this great suggestion! You know you don't have to keep them refrigerated.
Sweet potatoes are one of the most nutritious things you can feed... and these are NOT MADE IN CHINA !!! YIPPEE!!! |

| Can you slice them in thin rounds, like chips? Or would that be too dangerous? |

Pam -- I suppose you could slice them anyway you wish! I paid $59.95 for it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. I also made some beef jerky which is yummy (for the humans!) haha |

| Hey, Nora, I think I'm finally gonna try these. How long did you have to leave them in the dehydrator? |

I steamed them first in the microwave (I have a microwave steamer) for about 7 minutes.... THEN put them on the trays of the dehydrator. I put them on the next to the highest temperature for 9 hours... usually let them dehydrate overnight. I make them all the time now, and share them occasionally with some agility friends. They are a huge hit! |

| Let me know how they turn out. They are MUCH cheaper than buying treats. (Bella's poop will probably be the color of sweet potatoes... LOL) |

Great job Nora! I do these in my oven on the lowest temperature until they are as dry as I want. I tend to make them thin and dry them to very hard as they last a little longer for the monsters. I use a corrugated slicer and cut them in diagonal ovals or rounds. The dogs love 'em.
Nora, why did you steam them first? I never have but I might have to try that. |

| I'm glad you posted this in the Photos section! I probably wouldn't have seen it otherwise. Hubby's been wanting a dehydrator because you can do that kinda stuff for the parrots but I hadn't thought about the benefits for Amos! Guess we'll be getting one before long too. |

When we remodeled the kitchen 2 years ago, we purchased a new oven. It has a dehydrator feature and I love it. We also have a dehydrator. The guys use it for jerky. It looks yummy Nora, I love sweet potatoes, maybe Ernie would share some with me if I made him the treats. Great idea. |
