Hello,

I've been visiting this community for a while and have been reading all the wonderful  informative posts. I decided to join today! I'm a first time dog owner, I've had two cats for quite a while. I grew up with dogs but since I got married and moved out we hadn't had any until now. On Valentines Day 2008 I finally convinced my hubby to let me have a puppy!  I knew I wanted a smaller dog since we live in a condo and don't have a whole lotta space. We fell in love with a rat-terrier at the Wisconsin Humane Society and we adopted her. Her birthday was October 01, 2007 which makes her 5 months old. Her name is Choxie. I'm not sure how big she will get. Right now she weights about 8lbs. They told me at the Humane Society she would probably be 12lbs full grown. She really is a great dog. She is pretty much potty trained and now we are starting to work on basic commands such as sit and stay. I also plan to take her on more walks, the weather has been brutal here in Wisconsin. Well I just wanted to introduce myself and say hello to everyone.

PS> I'm going to post some pics soon!

Take care!

Amy

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too

Welcome Amy and Thank you for adopting Choxie from the shelter! I own Spanky, he is also an October 2007 baby You will meet many great people here who can offer a lot of good advice when you have questions and there are many threads on training & health with great information

When you own a Rattie....you KNOW you are in your right mind

THE MEANING OF RESCUE

Now that I'm home, bathed, settled and fed,
All nicely tucked in my warm new bed.
I'd like to open my baggage
Lest I forget,
There is so much to carry -
So much to regret.
Hmm... Yes there it is, right on the top
Let's unpack Loneliness, Heartache and Loss,
And there by my leash hides Fear and Shame.
As I look on these things I tried so hard to leave -
I still have to unpack my baggage called Pain.
I loved them, the others, the ones who left me,
But I wasn't good enough - for they didn't want me.
Will you add to my baggage?
Will you help me unpack?
Or will you just look at my things -
And take me right back?
Do you have the time to help me unpack?
To put away my baggage,
To never repack?
I pray that you do - I'm so tired you see,
But I do come with baggage -
Will you still want me?

Welcome to you & Choxie from a fellow Wisconsinite.

I know that you are a few hours away from me but here is a local group that has meetups approx once per month if you get to this area.

Max & I are anxious for the SNOW & COLD to go away so that we can go for walks.
