After the last few days of rain, the lake is now above flood stage -- elevation of 754 (flood stage is 750). Of course, we are so high, we don't have to worry! The lake came up 12 vertical feet in one day! Notice our RR sign is almost under water -- this is at the very end of our tram (I know I have a photo of it somewhere when the lake was low, but can't find it). Normal summer pool is around 740, it was down around 723 this summer.

Yes, our dock floats - we have two wenches on the dock and we tighten or loosen the two cables that hold it. So, we have to adust it with the changing water. We have a young Mr. Mom in the neighborhood that does it most of the time, but when the water is rising this fast, I usually have to pitch in and help. He does the heavy work - I just tighten or loosen the cables. |

| Dang Jan! Send some of that water down to Smith Lake! Our place isn't dry like some of the others are, especially on Lake Martin, but we're still around 13-14 feet below full pool. With the rain we've had in the last week or so, it's coming up. I have hope that we'll be at least close to full pool this summer. |

| Wow, Jan, Is that all from rain? I can't recall you talking about the level controlled by a dam or anything. |

Wow, Jan, Is that all from rain? I can't recall you talking about the level controlled by a dam or anything.
Yes, we have about 70 miles of shoreline and it is very hilly country (like our bank), so lots of run-off. This is a Kentucky Utilities lake and they use it to make power and for flood control. They can't lower it right now until the river goes down, or there will be flooding down river (into houses and the capital, Frankfort). However, flood stage (when it goes through the flood gates) is 750, so it is above flood stage now (this a.m. it is 755.1) and at 760 it will start spilling over the dam. This is the highest I've ever seen it -- but the rain has stopped and I'd say the run-off is slowing down, so it should start going down soon. Our RR crossing sign is completely under water now!

Yes, Bill - we were at Lake Lanier in October for my family reunion and it was very low then. I know Atlanta has gotten some rain - but still needs some. My sister and other family live there and this fall they were all worried about running out of water!
