We had a great time! It was very hot Monday afternoon, so only took a short ride. It rained on Tuesday (a light, steady all day rain) so we donned our ponchos and had a blast riding in the rain. Yesterday was a perfect fall day -- sunny, clear sky and only about 65*. We took a new trail that was beautiful, but was not marked well and took a wrong turn. Then we finally found our way and on the way back I took a tumble off the Chooster going down a big step down from a rock. So embarrassing, but I'm okay. We didn't get home until about 8:30 last night and I was exhausted!
So, now to bore y'all with photos!
1. Resting up on the trip down (she knows she's going to be busy)
2. Bath time (Choo Choo gets cleaned up after a ride)
3. My kids (need I say more) |

Beautiful pics, Jan. I'm totally horse ignorant. Only rode a horse once in my life! But Hollywood certainly left me with the impression it was bad for horses to get totally wet, as though they're prone to get pneumonia real easy??????? Is that just a myth? |

Thanks, y'all. I don't feel too badly about the fall, as it was a very difficult trail. Just glad I had the presence of mind to grab his neck and break my fall. I'm really not too sore today, and only have a couple of scratches and bruises. It is a good reminder that these trails often have tough spots and one needs to be very careful!
Dixie and KS are very comfortable around the horses and they around them. I missed getting a cute shot of KS trying to "play" with Jazz -- he was hanging his head over the stall door and she was doing her Rattie pounce move - like "come on, play with me". Unfortunately my camera lense was fogged up from the rainy day! Luckily it cleared out later on.
In answer to the question about wet horses --- nah, it doesn't hurt them to get wet. We always rinse the sweat off after a ride and on that particular day, when the picture was taken, he got a bath. Think about it, horses stand in the rain all the time. Now, I have never let mine stand out in a cold, cold or freezing rain, unless they are blanketed -- but some people do. I just figure they are better off in that kind of weather in a stall or with a waterproof blanket -- of course, I like for them to have a stall fan in hot weather too! |

| I'm glad you're okay. You made light of it but know as well as I do, that fall could have gone either way! You take lovely pics. I miss riding so much. Years ago I worked full time at stables and was their only trail guide. I loved it. Glad you're back safe and sound and that you had fun! |

Ala Black Beauty? Black Beauty was caught in a rain storm and worked HARD (getting his master to the dr. or something) and was very hot...then just thrown in a stall and got chilled.
Getting wet doesn't hurt them at all....but if they are sweaty/hot they must be walked until cool and rubbed down, etc. Also, if a horse is hot you should start hosing them off feet first, then legs, then up to the body....otherwise you run the risk of heat collecting in the hooves and causing founder.
I know - TMI! |
