03/12/2010 10:24 AM Poor Bailey....

Hubby called again... said Bailey has gone potty three times, but said he doesn't act sick.    He wanted to know if I could come home early.  DUH !!

Here's a picture I took of Mr. B several months ago after one of his "incidents"

If I remember correctly, this was taken after the "ground chuck" incident... the one time he got sick. He stayed under the blanket all evening (what time he wasn't throwing up).

Poor Bailey. Maybe one of these days he will learn his lesson. (Probably not, he is a man and all. hahaha!!) I hope his belly feels better soon.

So, who was it that asked for you to come home from work, the hubby or Bailey?

hubby of course....
He just doesn't deal well with situations such as these. IF he has to take Bailey to the vet... I'll leave work and meet him there. But I'm thinking (hoping) after a few potty "sessions" he'll be ok.

Of course... he seems to forget this was HIS fault...

Yes, men do not deal well with the sick. At least the men I know. My hubby is the same way. Hopefully Bailey will "get it out of him" and he will feel better with some rest.

You would think as smart as they are they would piece together that when they eat things off of the counter they don't feel well. I guess the smell and taste is just too much to resist.

Poor Bailey.    Sounds like he is a professional counter surfer.  Max would open the low cupboards and eat away if he could. . He can't jump high enough to get to the counters.

That picture is priceless, especially after reading the title, I really feel sorry for him!! It's a soulful pathetic look.

I just hate it when my furbabies are sick, and I don't trust anyone including Paul with them, not that he isn't good, but he isn't

Nora go home, BB really needs you to rub his tummy tum tums. But more than likely there is nothing more you can do for him that your husband isn't already doing (like letting him out).

Why does Bailey being a counter surfer, or visiting your niece a 1/4 mile from home give me comfort. Oh that's it, it makes me realize that my dogs are not that far off of "normal" theeheehehhhe

From this we can conclude that eating one whole bag of "Puperoni" doggie treats at one time does not agree with male rat terriers. Never been tested with female rat terriers......
Hope he feels better soon.....
Pepper ate a whole bag of duck jerky hubby put in the drawer next to his chair - only trouble is, he didn't close the drawer all the way and a few molecules of the corner of the bag were sticking out....just enough for her to grab and run off with. Hubby didn't even notice. No ill effects as it was a small bag.
LOL men and ratties.....

I never knew what I was missing until Pepper was literally dropped in my lap.....Life is good.

Oh poor baby. Vinnie can jump up higher than the counter as well .. from a standing position ... no run at all.  We just have to be careful not to leave anything on the edge .. he won't actually jump ONTO the counter .. but he can certainly reach the edge if he wants to. The only thing he has ever taken was a potato chip from a platter that was left on the edge by a relative during Kyle's graduation party. Sneaky little devils ... these ratties.

Layla - my dogs are not perfect, and I hope I have never come across to folks as projecting them as perfect, and if I have... I'm sorry.

Dogs are dogs and even the most highly trained dogs will be dogs at just about any opportunity that presents itself and certainly Bailey is no exception. I don't mind folks knowing that they are not perfect.

Hubby called again... Bailey is resting and appears to be just fine.

Awwweee now that is just pitiful looking!  Ya know, I used to give the neighbors lab pupperonis when he would visit and my neighbor said, "No more please, he just decorates the whole yard with the aftermath."  Oopsie! Had no idea.

Glad to hear he is feeling better.

Well said Bobbi!  It's called lack of will power.  We know we shouldn't, the dogs know they shouldn't but the temptation of the short lived gratification is far too powerful

Glad that Bailey is feeling better, maybe he just needed a little sympathy chaser, lol!

I once had a Golden that went on a garbage gut rampage after a birthday party we had. We didn't know what she had, but we had to take her to the vet, they x ray'd, found lots of (like Nala Belle) "interesting stuff". Not knowing what it was, but definitely wasn't obstructed, she was given 4 fleet enemas, a large water enema, and peanut butter/bread (pad and pass treatment). We were sent home (which luckily was only a few blocks) to wait for the "power dump" and report back the results.

It was a few rocks, several birthday cake candles, sheds of what was a party horn favor, and several paper party napkins.

Hargan hasn't discovered that trick ......yet......lol. We tried to give him puperoni's as a treat, but the few times we did poor Hargan was sick to his stomach. So If you'd like I have a "WHOLE" bag I can send you ....just kidding. .

I hope Bailey is better by now. Toby has just gotten straighten out. Final what seem to help was the Antiacid Pills I got for him. I am watching his diet also. He hasnt had a chew for 3 weeks now. Give Baliey some peditilite if he keeps going to the bathroom. This will keep him from becoming dehiderated.

Bailey is in top notch shape this morning... actually by last night was fine. Like I said - this dog must have a STRONG constitution! He had no supper last night...just water.
I crated him when I fed the others and he couldn't understand what was up with that. haha

It's chilly here today, but am going to take the furkids for a walk. Thanks for all your concern -- GREAT group of people here. I guess that, after further consideration.... I'll just keep Bailey.

I just read your update, glad that Bailey is better, however I was on my way there, I am 10 hours into my road trip to pick him up, now I have to turn around!!

BTW: You never come across as your dogs are perfect, so no need to apologize. That was my insecurity comment, I always think that I fail my dogs in training and they run circles around me, it's just comforting to know that they are just plain "normal" dogs. It's the leftover guilt of our misbehaved and unruly beagle. He lived to 14 years old, but man oh man if ever there was a dog that needed training it was him.

Wow! Sounds like I missed all the fun! So glad that Baily is fine. We certainly have had our share of "garbage gut" episodes. But I have found that those Pupperoni type treats always upset Amos stomach. We won a package at Jam last year and he good really looooooose. It's really hard to be a responsible pet owner and "pick up" poop that is liquid. I quit trying and just dowsed the areas with a big cup of water.

Pupperoni is crap.... and although Bailey did devour an entire bag which would have an adverse effect on probably ANY dog... I highly suspect even one or two of them would not have set well either. But ... they sure do smell yummy, and because dogs have few taste buds, and will eat most anything that smells good to them.. well.... what can I say?

Garbage in... garbage out !
