Heard from his mom today. He's totally housetrained now, scratches at the door when he has to go. Gets along wonderfully with his lab brother and also his "skin" brothers. He was just a perfect fit for them! |

what is merle?
Merle is a colour combination in dogs’ coats. It is a solid base color (usually red/brown or black) with lighter blue/gray or reddish patches, which gives a mottled or uneven speckled effect. [Wikipedia]

Think Shetland Sheepdog, Collie and Australian Shepherd. It's a mottled color of varying colors. The Sheltie and Collie both have blue merle, which can be very blue to dark blue or grayish, the Aussie comes in red merle as well as the blue. Some of the red merle dogs look like cinnamon and sugar. Dachsunds, Cardigans, Catahoulas, and Mudi's also come with merle. I'm sure there other breeds. If you go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Merle_(coat_colour_in_dogs), there is a good description and lots of photos.

The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too
