He hasn't acted like they are itchy today and after a supper of boiled chicken and rice, he played with his stuffed hippo for a few minutes but then crawled back in my lap (where I took these photos) and slept.
I have given them both their last 10 mg of Hydroxizine for the night so they should be falling asleep soon. I'm off to sit with them.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as we see the vet tomorrow so we can find out what this is. Taffy doesn't look as bad but she is more touchy about them. She will cry out if you touch her back or hip where the bumps are. |

I wonder if they could be mosquito or chigger bites? Since they both have them, I would not think it was an allergic reaction to anything. Unless it was poison oak or something. Hope they go away soon. Maybe oatmeal shampoo, would help. |

| Could be bug bites. But I wonder if maybe they got one bite then had a reaction and the bites got a superficial infections. Amos did that once with a few fireant bites. |

Cheryl, looks exactly like Zipper's red bumps last April. At first I thought it was something in her Raw Meaty Bones diet, but I know now it wasn't that at all. First she got a red/brownish belly that I think was a seasonal allergy to something in the backyard. The vet confirmed she had been in for a red rash the previous April, too. But then, on top of the allergy red belly, I think a bee stung her also. We have a tallow tree that produces its pollen silks in April and that tree draws bees like you would not believe each April. Both my girls bat at and play with the bees when they land on the ground and usually get stung. Well.....I think Zipper did just that as just when the red belly was clearing up, it immediately got MUCH worse and she then also got all these little red bumps and welps just like in your pic of Aka.........ALL over her body, but REALLY bad on her belly. Each bump got red, then developed a tiny puss nodule and then would scab over heal in 1-2 days. She got so red that night her belly was nearly as red as a Coke can!!! She licked at her belly unmercifullly, just making it get redder! About this time we noticed a quarter size place between her shoulders where the skin was thickened and the hair was getting "wirey" and course, which often happens when dogs get stung by bees. As Zip's fur is normally VERY soft, we imimediately put two and two together and figured she had messed with a bee and gotten stung that afternoon, unbeknownst to us. I gave her 1/2 tab daily of Claritin (10 mg) daily in A.M. per vet's OK. Also gave her some children's Benadryl liquid P.M.. Using both, it cleared up in about a week. The quarter-size place on her shoulders still after months has course fur, which would indicate permanent hair follicle damage/scarring there. So I'm thinking maybe Aka got stung by something outside? Food allergies tend to just cause itching, rash, flaking, poor coat luster, fur loss etc..........rarely goes all the way to welps/bumps/hives (though it can). |

Hi Everyone, Thanks so much for your thoughts and concerns. The vet is feeling like it is a bite also. Since both dogs have it as was mentioned above, it probably isn't a reaction to something like food etc. As to what bit them, I have walked the yard over and can't find anything significant. We are in a fireant state so that could be it, but we don't have any mounds in our yard. That doesn't mean there isn't a mound outside our fence in the neighbors bushes that I can't see. Neither dog did much itchy scratching or licking. Of course that could be due to the fact that as soon as I saw the bumps I immediately started them on 10 mgs three times a day of Hydroxizine, the antihistamine my vet ordered for Aka when he did have a reaction to his shots. The bumps are still there today but not as red. I don't know about pustules but several have darker spots in the center like abite. Dr. G said to keep them on the hydroxizine and to come back Monday so he could see the sites again. He seemed to feel they would be much better Monday. I think so too. both pups woke up hungry and playful which they hadn't been the past several days. I don't think Taffy has as many bumps on her plus you can't see them as well since her fur is thicker and fuller. I'm calling the gentleman who does our lawn mowing and major yard work and ask him to come over and check out the yard and fence lines. He is a good friend of ours and thinks the dogs are so cute so I'm sure he will be glad to help. This is so frustrating when you don't have a clear cut knowledge of what something is and the pups can't tell you what it is or what they did. So far they are both going out for potty and don't seem to be nervous about outside or any particular area fo the yard. I've also turned the house upside down looking for spiders, etc. Nothing to be found. We will keep you posted. aloha, |

| I'm so glad to hear that it nothing too serious. Those fireants can be sneaky. Max has gotten into them a couple of times. We have to constantly put out stuff to kill the ants and the mounds. After the rains we had this week, I expect to see lots of them outside. |

| Fire ants can be deadly. A man here in Central Florida, died of an anaphalactic reaction from fire ant bites. The flood waters, forced them to get into his house, and by the time the rescuers got to him, and got him to the hospital, it was too late. I am glad your babies are doing better. |
