| that looks just like what my shih tzu used to get... all we could do was a topical oitment... she would lick it, it would burst and be nasty... then go away... seasonal issue... some sort of allergy. |

| Is it hard, wiith no drainage or does it have a head like a pimple or bug bite? Amos had a lesion on his ear that looked like a bug bit him. It never went away and just got bigger. I had the vet remove it. It was a benign histiocytoma.(not sure if I spelled that right). I noticed a bump on his chest and another on his back today. I'm watching them to see what they may turn out to be. Keep us posted. |

I had a springer once that used to get those, foxtail's worked into the skin and had to be removed. One time he got one in his ear - after watching him flip flop his head for an hour - took him in and they had to put him to sleep to get it out - and it was another foxtail weed. In any case if it gets worse I'd have a vet look at it. |

| It's so red, I think I'd let your vet rule out anything serious or a skin infection secondary to allergies. Could also be something stuck under the skin (thorn or splinter) festering that could get infected. Could be the benign histocytoma, like Kim said. I had a dachshund that had one of those on her lip and her hip. The lip one filled and drained three times in her life. Never bothered the dog at all. I had the one on her hip removed because it looked so awful. She got one more on her head when much older. Vet said they swell, fill with fluids & blood, drain off and then subside, but can recur at the same site or the dog can get new ones. He said they usually only remove them if bothersome to the dog. They bother the owners more than the dogs, he told me. Some dogs are just prone to them. I'd let your vet evaluate to be safe. |

| Bailey has a lesion on her leg, it's not really big but the vet said to watch it. I think she called it a histocytoma too. It doesn't seem to bother her at all but if it gets any bigger I want to get it removed. |

Thank you all for your comments. This forum has been so valuable to me. I believe that the doctor did write histocytoma on his appointment card. They wanted to do more tests but even though I have the wellness plan, it would have been $120. Money is tight since I lost my job so I chose to go with the topical ointment and hope that it will go away. Thank you for taking the time to answer. Geri |

It is hard and it does drain and form a scab. |
