We just got home with our newest (2nd) foster furbaby, little Cricket. Cameo's mother instincts came out immediately as Cameo went to comfort and protect Cricket from the big bad boys . Janie will fill in the details on Cricket's background and will probably call her Cricket Two to avoid confusion.
The meet was set for the Daytona Beach Cracker Barrel and we thought to leave early enough to get a breakfast in, but the wait was too long. We backed up to the Awful House for a quickie and were right on-time to pickup Cricket. Janie almost couldn’t eat after the visit to the “ladies” room
It was way too hot to sit outside with her to do the introductions so we took a chance, dug out the oversized crate and brought Cricket inside. Cameo was in with Cricket in a moment. Zippy was next to sniff up to her, followed by Doodle-Head-Rattagan. Rattagan fussed not a bit. I think they all sense Cricket's level of distress. She's on Clomicalm for separation anxiety, but so far has been very calm. She even walked right up to me for a sniff and a touch.
Tony and Lois, who sheltered Cricket overnight, said that Cricket hopped right up in bed with them for the night.
As for me, I'm due for a rest after the 190 mile round trip today, and did I mention I still have work to do?
Anyway...here are the first few pics:

Cameo is an equal opportunity lover, loves everyone at first sight. She is also very contact oriented. At night she will scooch over in her sleep to the nearest warm body if she is left "out in the cold" when one of us gets up for any reason.
Latest update on Cricket, she has attached herself to Mom and I guess Mom is now a foster-grandma |

| PS... Phil left out that Cricket is a little girl. She was a puppy mill dog and you all know how that is. She is a good girl and will go out to potty and come when called as long as you aren't standing up. If you sit down she will come to you. She likes to held and would let me carry her all day if I would do it. I think it is rest time for us and for the doggies. It's been a busy morning. |

Janie is referring to our Cricket as II because we're trying to avoid confusion since there is already a Cricket here, resulting in more

Is this the Cricket who came from a foster daddy in the Panhandle? If so, I transported her and Nadine from Tallahassee to Jacksonville. She was so scared but would gently take treats through the crate door. What a precious little girl. Lucy (our rattie) went with us for the trip and didn't mind Cricket being in the car on the ride back at all. Nadine was also a sweetheart but she wanted to challenge Lucy for queen of the car title. Let's just say Lucy was OK to see us drop off Nadine. |

One and the same. She is a sweet little girl. It will take some time to bring her out of her shell, but she is being very good and very quiet. After picking out a bed yesterday she mostly stayed in it all afternoon and evening. We were happy to see her eat well with her first meal here last evening. We feed Natural Balance, but we weren't sure if she'd take to it so we mixed in some of the dry food that came with her. She just picked around that stuff and left it.
And here we go with our first full day of four ratties

I do not know Cricket's age, but from looking at her, she has had puppies. I'm thinking maybe a couple of years old. Too young for what she has been through. All four are doing well, Little Zip as I call Zippy is starting to play with toys. He didn't come with any, his family said he de-stuffs them. But that's what ratties do, gotta kill that stuffed critter and rip its innards out. Cricket has gotten brave enough to get on my bed now and she and Cameo are napping together. They are all doing well, and getting along just fine. No bites, just a growl or two, nothing major. I have a house full of doggie beds for them to chose from, wherever they want to lay there's a bed. Zip will now jump up in your lap for nuzzleing and sleeping. He likes to sleep at my feet. I'm hoping that Cricket will come around and do the same thing. They all got new food and water bowls yesterday when I bought a couple of more beds. My large crate is coming in handy, Cricket eats in there, not much room for anything but laying down in her crate so she uses the big one. Zip doesn't like a crate but he is getting brave enough to walk into the big one. I'm hoping that will help when we start working on crate training. We're just taking things slow right now until they settle in. Slow and steady wins the race.

Ok... I'm confused with the Cricket I and Cricket II names...
Bring me up to speed, Janie !!
Nora, I call her Cricket II or lil Cricket, for only one reason. Lois and Tony who brought her to Daytona for the drop off/pick up, told me I may want to change her name because Ratbone Rescues already has a Cricket. So I just added the II or lil' to her name. It may yet change because she doesn't seem to be much of a Cricket to me but nothing has come to mind yet. I was trying to think of the Ewoks names on Star Wars because she makes me think of the Ewoks. Or maybe calling her Watcher, because she watches everything but doesn't really participate in any thing. She was talking to Phil this morning but she didn't say what she would like to be called. She is a sweet, quiet little thing and likes to sleep on my bed, at least when we aren't in it.
Zippy I have started calling him Zip, from the dogs name in the movie, The Last of the Dogmen. One of my favorites. He's doing well and is definately a woman's dog. He doesn't mind men, he just prefers the attention from the ladies.
Hope this helps, Nora, if not let me know what I forgot to say and I'll fill in the blanks.

I lahk it !! *hugs* Worked with a little papillion the other night... his name was "Ditto"... because he mimicks the other dogs. Thought that was a cute name too! LOL |
