This is a friend of mine's dog...He is a rat with papers, but she sent me this picture asking if he is type B or Type A. I thought Type A, but he is much shorter than her other rat. |

Hard to tell from the pictures... but he looks like a Type B (short-legged rattie) to me ... Mary Beth is more familiar with the Type B's... she can probably tell you better than I can! |

Shhhhh - Please don't tell Katie she is not eligible to run for President. She so loves to dress up, give speeches and pose for pictures. Dixie and I are just trying to humor her. -- Katie's Mom

Looks like he's inbetween....maybe part A and part B? Breeders aren't supposed to mix them but they could....
Here's a pic of Mayfly, type B, with 2 type B parents. |

He looks to me like he has B front legs and A back legs...maybe he is a mix of both. He's a cutie no matter what, but they are breeding their dogs and I know that the female is a type A. |

Yeah, his back legs look too long for a B. He could have 2 type A parents and one of them has a "B" in their family somewhere.

| He looks like a pudgy A to me. He is more square, doesn't really have the body length of a B. Shouldn't they know what their dogs are before they breed them? |

The more I look a the pic the more I think pudgy A or half and half. Check this link out: http://www.nrta.com/newratstandards5.html To me he looks like the "tuxedo" rattie below only he's chubbier. The Class B rat on the right looks more like my Mayfly who I know is a B.
"The Rat Terrier not only comes in 3 sizes but also two body types. Rats that have a square, long leg look are shown as Class A. Rat Terriers that have a shorter leg length in proportion to body are shown as Class B. The following standards will apply to both classes with the exception of the difference in body to leg length (shown below) also see (Body Standards). These are two separate and unique body styles for the Rat Terrier and to keep them this way, it is recommended that they never be bred together. They have been with the Rat since their American existence, and there are no differences other than body style. Both Class A and B dogs share all of the same wonderful rat terrier traits. To deny either style would be to taint the existence of the breed. "

I think that little cutie doesn't have a long enough body to be a type B. His front legs look on the shorter/ stockier side, but his back legs seem to raise up to an A standard. It may be the angle, but his body appears shorter. CoCo is a B, and a pretty long/tanklike one at that, and Mayfly has the same build of what the NRTA describes as correct conformation for a B. I think this boy is built more similar to my Gus, who has shorter front legs, and longer back legs. When you stand him side by side with CoCo, not only is he taller, but shorter in body as well. Plus, he isn't the sturdy build that she is. My guess (since he was a rescue and I have no way of knowing) is that Gus is a cross between an A/B and that's why he like this other little guy, doesn't quite fit either dimensions perfectly.
This is CoCo ( the best side view I have) versus the stature of Gus.

Brielle is a type A, and so is Winchester, but she is shorter than him.
Also, Donna in your pic, you can see just by Remi's (the one on her lap) front paws and body type how much shorter the B's are in proportion to the A's. I knw Brielle and Winchester are larger then he is too, but he looks long even in that picture. And I know that he is a true B as does Donna because he and CoCo are out of the same litt er. Your pic is a good comparison, even though Remi isn't standing up.

He is 7 pounds. I just measured him approximately 13 inches long, and 7 and a half to 8 inches tall. He was afraid of the measuring tape...

Well, I went to see him in person and I think he is a Type A. He is very muscular(looks fat in the pic, but looks quite solid in real life) He is a little shorter than Tinkerbelle, but I think he is a small standard Type A. He was very sweet and Tinkerbelle was a little smitten with his studliness! Their female is much bigger than Tinkerbelle, so I think that is why he looks so short in the pics. She is more the size of 15-18lbs and taller than Tink....kind of like Katie Scarlett with those super long legs!
Tinkerbelle is 13lbs and a petite standard type A.

And there little forarms are VERY muscled too.A's tend to be very fine boned..The long back doesn't matter ALL my boys have long backs! |
