I recently got a puppy and am wondering if it is a Rat Terrier?  I got her from a shelter, she came in as a stray at 5wks old.  They said originally she was a "lab mix".  Not so much.  She is 3 months old now and all of 6 lbs.  She looks very much like a miniature Pit Bull ~ however, I know there is no such breed...is she a Rat?

To be honest, I used / use the vet at the Shelter that I got her from and he really didn't even know what breed she is.  That is why I have been trying to research.  I work for the shelter and I have had her since she was five wks old.  I fostered her until she was 8 wks, then adopted her.  We fell in love with her!  She is VERY smart, already potty trained and she will be 3 months old on the 8th.  She is sweet as honey, but a little high strung.

The older she gets, the more she looks like a rat to me...but she is not tri-colored so that is the confusing part.  From what I have read, they can have as little as 20% white, no brown and be almost solid black... well, initially, I'd say she looked a lot like a lab mix...but now she certainly doesn't.  I just weighed her again and she is actually up to 8lbs.

I just wonder ~ are there black / white rats?  I have seen solid black and research indicates that they come in a variety of colors...just trying to determine what she is...but even if she isn't a rattie ~ we love her very much!

She could definitely be mostly, some, or even all rattie The size sounds about right, and the intelligence is a dead give away Ratties do come in a very wide variety of colors and patterns.

Does she like to sleep under the covers? (Read the You Might be A Rattie If....forum and see how many of those fit your girl )

What's her name?

Her name is Adidas...my daughter named her.  At first we didn't much care for it, but it has grown on us!  She doesn't get up in the bed just yet...she needs steps to do so as she hasn't quite figured out that she can jump yet.  As a matter of fact, she won't even go down the stairs yet.  She has her favorite bed, and she has taken it upon herself to claim my sons little spiderman chair!

She seems very smart and eager to please.  She follows me all over the house and will just sit at my feet when I stop and watch me as if she is waiting for something.

She has quite a personality and is a bit of a drama queen.  You should have heard her when she got her shots!  LOL

I will look at the forum areas suggested and get back with you!

Thank you!

HAHAHAH Sounds rattie to me!! (see "Trixi Girl" and "Trixi's split personality" in the rattie photos section) LOL
She looks at least part rattie to me and I agree with Tracey that the intelligence and size make it even more convincing!

Well, you could always get that breed DNA testing done. But from your description, I'd say she has some rattie or terrier in her.

Welcome to you and little Adidas. What a cutie pie! Looks like there is some rattie in there to me. You may be able to better tell when she gets a bit older and the ears have decided what they are gonna do permanently. Love the white feet! She sure is SHINY! Whatever you're feeding her, I'd stick with it!

Aww, well she is cute whatever she is! Her hair looks like it has a little bit of a different texture than a RT...it looks a little longer and thicker but she does look like she could have a little RT in her. Does she have any ticking/spots on her belly? She does have a little bit of a lab look to her too though...just not as big as a lab.

They have other ones too...a bear, a monkey, etc. But you're also gonna have a real baby car seat soon, so looks like you might have to buy a bus

Well, the Volvo seats 7 so hopefully it will work for a while!  But I think once Emma sees that the baby gets a carseat she may want one too!

Shamus has the thicker coat too! so that in it;s self isn't a deturant...His mom was is tri-blue tick and threw a lot solid Shamus is 75%black  I had some pups out of my ratty girl, that got rape'd by a LAB!(yea it happenes!)she threw lots of pups that look's like this she had 7!!! so Lab X is possible too! this litle girl ended up @15 lbs at full grown so it could be what you got ...

Adidas does have a tickle spot on her belly that I just found. She seems to have shorter stockier legs/body than a Rattie though..but her personality and face look a lot like a Rattie...so that is where I am confused. She almost looks like a Pit/Rat mix...is that even possible??

Whatever she is, we love her to death. She came in as a 5wk old stray all by herself, so it was meant to be. She made it through that and she is a PARVO survivor! So, this special little girl is here to stay no matter what her actual breed...just trying to pinpoint it so that when I am asked, I can give an answer!
